GR7
AN EBAY LOOKALIKE SITE set up to grab credit card details from unsuspecting bargain hunters has been rumbled. Users were spammed and pointed to a site named ebayupdates.com where they were asked to re-enter their credit details, Reuters reports. The mail kicked off: "Dear Ebay Member, We at Ebay are sorry to inform you that we are having problems with the billing information of your account." The scam targeted the online auctioneer's 55 million users and it is unclear how many of the poor souls offered up their details. An Ebay spokesman told Reuters that this sort of thing happened from time to time and users should know that "Ebay never emails users requesting personal information." Though the ISP hosting the site has been made aware of the scam, the scamsters have not yet been identified, reports state. ?
