One can get all of these updates (official, not beta obviously) from just running the Creative Updater correct? If so I will do that, as it has been a month or so since I have last run it.

Certainly not the case for my cards i've owned. Newer drivers have provided more features in some cases, so updating is strongly recommended.

Same here. I have not had an issue with any Creative drivers since like 2007 actually.

Now of course I am going to have issues with the next drivers I install, Murphys Law FTL.

For some reason the autoupdater client no longer seems to work for me here, when I launch it I get a dialogue box saying "This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose 'switch to' to activate the busy program and correct the problem" there is a choice of switch to or retry (Cancel is greyed out) hitting retry does nothing and hitting switch to just opens the start menu!

Going to the website is even worse, choosing the option to auto check for software autoupdate gives an error about Vista not being supported, I am running Win7 Pro x64 :(

That said I have installed the SBXF_PCDRVBETA_US_2_18_0015 drivers as I have a X-Fi XtremGamer Fatal1ty Pro card and found that the popping I was getting before has gone, so these are good for me :)

Just read Raj's post above, I might give those Pax drivers a look at a later date.

Great thread, I suspect something and I was right.

There's newer (beta) Windows 7 drivers buried in the Windows 8 drivers. Creative has done this before (hidden newer driver's for older cards).

  • Download and extract the files from the driver .exe (I use 7zip to extract the files)
  • Go in to the Drivers folder
  • Run Setup

Only try if your up for a bit of adventure and may risk breaking your computer.

Seems they have reposted the beta Windows 8 driver for the X-Fi range with a newer digital certificated dated 26th September 2012. Maybe they fixed the "no sound after restart" issue but as they have not posted any release notes I cannot say for sure.

Ive installed the latest Daniel K. drivers ( http://www.lecuistre.net/pages/WN5fnG/ ) for my Audigy 2 ZS and everything is working except im very disapoint son about the equaliser ! 5 BANDS!! on a card that sold for that much while Realtek have over 10 bands EQ. But the sound quality is so good i'm sticking to my ZS anyway. Anyone here can tell me if the X-Fi cards have better EQ's and if they could work on older sound cards ?

    • A coalition of publishers sued OpenAI and Microsoft over scraping content without consent by Hamid Ganji Image via Depositphotos.com AI companies often rely on readily available internet content to train their chatbots and provide users with instant answers. This method of AI training is fast and relatively inexpensive, but using a website’s content without permission or compensation is not something publishers like to see, and this is exactly why Microsoft and OpenAI are now being sued. As reported by Bloomberg, a group of publishers that collectively own nearly 400 newspapers has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft. The coalition argues that the two companies scraped their content to build AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Copilot without paying any compensation. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, argues that while AI products have generated billions of dollars in market value using publishers’ work, none of that value has been shared with the publishers. The plaintiffs are seeking statutory damages and injunctive relief for alleged copyright infringement and violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. “Defendants systematically and secretly crawled the Publishers’ websites—including content behind paywalls and other access restrictions—and copied the Publishers’ articles, stories, and other original works onto their own servers without authorization,” the complaint states. The publishers also described the AI boom as a “death knell for local journalism” if AI companies that scrape content for free are not held accountable. Former New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin and his law firm, Platkin LLP, are representing the publishers. “Our models empower innovation, are trained on publicly available data, and are grounded in fair use,” OpenAI spokesperson Drew Pusateri told Bloomberg. This is not the first lawsuit involving the unauthorized use of publishers’ content by AI firms, but it is one of the largest coalitions ever formed against the free use of content by AI chatbots. In 2024, OpenAI and Microsoft also faced a similar lawsuit from eight newspapers that claimed AI products were benefiting from their content without permission.
