How to set shares

Recommended Posts

In windows 2003 server, everytime I set a share, it's passworded. I know I disabled this in XP, but i sorta forgot

sry if this is a n00b question, i guess i forget things easily though.

you have to enable the guest account. Then just give access to Everyone or Guest/Guests. After that's done Any password/username will be accepted.

i don't think you have to enable the guest account, just allow everyone read access.

i did, but i still get a password prompt, and I don't want a server with a user that has no password...

lol, sorry, thought you knew how. i'll explain how to do that later. but first, try this:

on the sharing tab of the folder you want to share, click permissions. make sure it gives read access to everyone (or whatever group you want) a user has to have appropriate share AND ntfs permissions in order to gain access.

ok, now, to add a user from a different computer, go to the security tab of a folder you want to share. click add. then type (computer name)\(username)

i don't think it will work unless you're in a domain, but it's worth a shot. try adding "momscomp\users" read access.

thought that's what it would do, since it did it for me. did you check both the share permissions AND the NTFS permissions?
