PS3 Media Server Thumbnail Generator

Recommended Posts

UPDATED:

Well guys, after a few days I've managed to finish a cool application that allows you to generate cool 3d thumbnails for use with PS3 Media Server without any knowledge of Photoshop or similar tools.

It's very straightforward app and it is powered by Amazon. So all you have to do is type in the movie you are looking for, be it DVD, HD DVD, Blu-ray or similar and you can pick and fine tune the cover and save it to your computer.

You can use it here:

http://www.worldinhidef.com/ps3ms/thumbnailgenerator/

Let me know if you have any issues but it should be fairly straightforward. You can make covers in a snap with a huge library of images and covers from Amazon.

VERSION 2.0 UPDATE

- Optimized applying the covers. It is directly applied to the 3d cover instead of writing a temporary file making the application much faster.

- Added Horizontal and Vertical Scaling sliders for fine tuning size

- Added 6 Cover templates

- Added 7 Disc templates

- You can mix and match covers with discs.

- The Video/Audio boxes are now fully interactive (as you type it gets updated, no need pressing PREVIEW button)

- Hitting ENTER on text fields now executes searches. No need for using mouse to click on SEARCH buttons.

- The ability to completely hide video and audio boxes

- Custom URL for the image loading if you can't find things on Amazon.

- Update and polished covers to be a bit higher resolution (less compressed)

SUGGESTION:

- You should possibly regenerate your covers because the new template system is slightly (few pixels) moved and adjusted as I imported new graphics. These are much better and won't change anymore. I will be just adding different templates (other than 3d ones - like film reel design of cover, flat style covers, XBMC style covers etc)

Cheers.

(Y) Amazing work Boz!

Might finally get around to doing this for my external drive finally.

Have to say that it's a shame that the PS3 doesn't natively support images for thumbnails rather than just the clip of the movie. I would much prefer this to 5 seconds of the opening sequence.

Awesome work Boz but unfortunately Amazon doesn't have the right covers for everything. Sometimes it's only posters it has as well, not even the DVD/Blu Ray cover :(

Sure..I'll add a custom IMAGE field.. where you can copy/paste a url to an image that will load into the resizer. So even if you can't find a cover on Amazon you will still be able to apply custom ones from somewhere else.

Nice (Y)

You should get in touch with shagrath and see if it's possible to code this into PS3MS?

It's handy being a webpage, don't need to install any software, but if you ever pull the webpage and go missing? :p

Now just bring me an automated script that looks at all my files and goes and searches :( I almost wish you hadn't released this version Boz, most of my films are DVD rips and dont look right in the BR cover :( But still i've been making all the thumbnails.

He said that in version 2.0 you'll be able to choose between HDDVD, DVD, film reel, BluRay boxes, so wait patiently.

I know, hence I said that I almost wished he hadn't released the prior version :)

Amazing work on thie Boz (Y)

Edit - Seem to have an issue saving the image directly to an external drive, slightly strange but can save to desktop fine

Unfortunately it's a security issue with Flash. No way around it unless they release a patch. I think it depends how your drive is connected. If it's USB or network that's most likely the cause. If it's internal I think it should work fine.

Ah no worries Boz, yeah it's USB but certainly wasn't criticising your work, just another 200+ to go (Y)

Boz I forgot to mention earlier but this won't work on Chrome for me :/

edit: No wait it's working now, sometimes it just loads a blank page though. Version 2.0 is awesome :) I'll have to re-do my whole collection now though LOL, will take a while.

By the way Boz, isn't it folder.png you need to save the file as?

Also example of how this looks

Okay..AB, you need to update to Flash player 10.. make sure you have the latest version.. I mean the code is compliant with Flash 9 but it might cause issues.. so make sure you have the latest Flash Player installed. Flash 10 Player introduced something called File Reference class that allows me to save things directly to user's hard drive which is why I published as Flash 10.

Folder.png or Folder.jpg are for folders.. I usually don't put my movies into one folder for each movie. I have folder for genres and then have all movies (files) for that genre in there. I have movie covers in a different folder named HD Movie Covers and then I tell PS3MS to read from that folder.

How does that work, just name the cover file the same as the movie file name?

    • Glad these prices are starting to come down, but that is still crazy. I bought the 2TB 9100 Pro (slightly more expensive version with PCIe 5.0) last year for $240.
    • The 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD hits lowest price in over three months by Sayan Sen Yesterday, we covered a really good deal wherein you can get a 4TB TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD for a low price of just $400 with a special discount coupon. That's just $100 per TB, making it a very good offer during these hard times. The deal is still live, so you can check it out in its dedicated article here if you do not want to miss out. Meanwhile, if you don't have that kind of budget but still wish to buy an SSD for a good price, the 2TB variant of the TeamGroup SSD at $280 its lowest price in over three months. Meanwhile, those seeking 2TB but faster performance can check out Samsung's 990 PRO, which has hit the lowest price also in the last quarter or so, as it's on sale for $370 (purchase links under the specs table down below). Thus, you want a faster drive, get the 990 Pro, or you want more capacity, grab the TeamGroup 4TB linked in the first para. The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $500. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more. • If you can't spell a simple word that 2nd graders learn, your entire argument is suspect.
    • And here goes the "Won't someone think of the children" brigade. Get stuffed mate. This has NOTHING to do with making the internet safe. It's about tracking adults, spying on your online activity, and sending the boys around when they don't like something you post. Also, again, parliament have voted TWICE against this, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. THAT is anti-democratic bullsh**. They will use this law to track you, they will use this law to control you, and they will use this law to punish you if they don't like what you do, even if it's legal. And your data? Say bye bye to that. It'll be on the darkweb in weeks. I'm not some rando online. I've been an IT professional for 40 years, many of it in security. I know exactly what this means and what will happen to your data. I do not consent and I will not comply.
    • "...but it may not be Microsoft's fault" seems like a reasonable way to tease what is going on without leaving the user with a false impression that an update is the problem. A title isn't a summery, it is meant to entice the user to read the article. It should not contain a misleading premise; which this title does not. You could maybe complain that the first paragraph should have included that detail. The writing style popularized over 100 years ago in newspapers will cover the most important information as soon as possible with details and nuance added later; the idea being that with each new paragraph you have less of the reader's focus.
