Resident Evil 5 crashing

Recommended Posts

Just got Resident Evil 5, it installs fine and plays fine for a bit in DX 10 mode, then it just randomly freezes and either BSOD's with no error message, or simply freezes and forces me to reset the system. My system specs: AMD Phenom II 3.5 GHZ, 4 GB Crucial Ballistix RAM, Nvidia Geforce 260, Win 7 Ultimate X64. I have changed the Anti-Aliasing from 8x to 0 and back to see if that made any difference, it appears not to help. My Nvidia drivers are the most current WHQL, and I am not having any other issues with any other games! Any suggestions?

Don't have the game so can't help. Have you tried googling or going to their official forums?

8x Anti-Aliasing sounds like an overkill though :D I'm always happy with 2x

I am having a similar issue. My specs are in my sig. I have the latest WHQL drivers as well. My game only freezes, however, and forces me to manually power down the machine. I have not yet got a blue screen. It has freezed at the main screen, during gameplay, and during paused gameplay. It has frozen as fast as 3 min and as long as 30 min into the game. I have read several other forums where people have the same or similar problem.

I have tried to lower all of the graphic settings as well as trying both DX10 and DX9 but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just fyi for anyone else having this issue, DX9 seems more stable and I can play for longer periods of time with all medium settings and 1024x768. The game still freezes eventually though. I have discovered several posts for the same exact issue that happened on the PS3 and 360, therefore, I believe it is possible a software issue and not a hardware issue. I have received no response from the Capcom forum yet.

Thanks for the heads up! I have quit playing for the time being, until something changes...

I haven't had freezing, but my videos stopped working once, oddly enough. I was in a co-op (local) game with my roommate and when a "shared" video came up, it didn't play on my machine for some reason. I would recommend checking for updated chipset drivers in addition to the graphics card drivers.

Has anyone here played co-op? My roommate and I have been playing, and he's able to upgrade his weapons and has new items available for purchase, but my character (Sheva) can't buy anything new or upgrade even the pistol. Does it make a difference if I join his game or vice-versa?

resident evil 5 runs great for me too.

specs: core2duo / 6gb ram / geforce 9800gt+ / windows 7 64bit

resi5 specs: 1440x900 / anti-a 8x /

NOTE, that the game crashes on my pc ONLY IF I USE A TRAINER! other than that it runs great.

I was looking through the AMD/ATI forums and found a group of people who were having problems with the cutscene videos like me. They were all running DX10, but also all had a 4870 X2 (like me).

Long story short, disabling AA in the game fixed the cutscene problem completely. I was able to force AA through CCC but it didn't look the same.

Just thought I'd mention it just in case someone else has this problem.

Playing so sweet I love capcoms engine. Looks so amazing and getting 40fps average at 1400x900 with x2 AA on my measly 9600gt.

God I wish they left the split screen co-op in!!! I was looking so foward to playing with my girlfriend on 360 controller while I escorted her around (lol) with the mouse/keyboard. Maybe they'll patch it in but i'd say i'm dreaming. Anyone heard any rumors!?!

Well I have been playing it for a little - not sure if I like the Resident Evil format of stop and go, stop and go...

But @ 1920x1200 & w/ everything cranked as high as it will go - I ran the benchmark and never got below 90fps --- not bad I guess

I assume nobody plays w/ keyboard & mouse ? kinda hard to move and slash with the knife - real hard in fact

I finished the game with mouse and keybaord, and had no problems pressing space when needed.

I actually had the same issue, to fix it I just underclocked my graphics card slightly, I have the 8800gt SSC which is known for being too overclocked and causing BSOD's though.

Hope this helps non the less :)

Yea, while it running nice and smooth for me at 1920x1200 DX10 with AAx2 on , after a few minutes of playing there is black screen during cutscenes.

Not really an issue tho, since the game looks great with AA off.

RE5 coop is completely based off the host, you will have to remind your friend that he is responsible for upgrading the weapons you are using as well as his own, because they are all actually his weapons anyway, SP or Coop. switching hosts would just reverse the situation but as long as the host knows whats up you can do whatever.

Well I am now believing that the CPU is the issue, I have played a few of the 'newer' games and suddenly I get BSOD's and freezes, so I am putting a call into AMD for an RMA!

Ouch that truly is unfortunate, hopefully everything goes well.

I would never ever ever play any game that required manual aiming with anything other than the keyboard/mouse combo. I can't imagine how much slower/harder it must be to get headshots with a joystick. I only use my 360 controller for platform, adventure and racing games etc.

And you can't move and slash at the same time, hence it being really hard, impossible infact. :p
