Chrome Page Rendering Slow upon Tab Change

Recommended Posts

Sometimes in Chrome when multiple tabs, not necessarily that many, maybe 4 or 5, are open when I switch to the next tab the page just isn't there, even if it loaded minutes ago it seems to take Chrome a while to make sense of it and display it, the tabs are just blank white until the browser catches up and remembers what it's doing.

Does anyone else experience this problem?

Thanks,

Richard.

I had this same problem. It ****ed me off. I guess I'm spoiled by firefox's much better tab handling. pages render instantly when switching tabs even when there are 50 tabs open. However on chrome it lags terribly.

So I looked for a solution and I found it. But I must warn you, chrome IS a RESOURCE HOG, and this fix will only make it eat more resources. My 50+ tabs in chrome now render instantly when switching, but chrome eats a looot more memory. So, if you have less than 3gigs of ram this might not be a good fix for you. Or if your laptop has a loud fan that will goes berserk when it has to do anything strenuous, again not a very good choice to fire up chrome with this fix. Aight. lets get down to business:

Append "--memory-model=high" to the target section in the google chrome shortcut properties page. Close all chrome.exe processes and click the shortcut.

Enjoy your lag-free chrome.

What version of Chrome are you using? Which OS also? (32/64-bit)

(and no, never had this issue either across the 20+ different PCs I've worked with)

I have the same problem all the time, and I don?t use any extensions...

I've found that firefox is faster if you are a clutter bug like me that usually have multiple tabs open, and chrome to be ?faster or of the same speed? when you have just one tab open.

If I'm just starting up firefox it starts up much faster even if I'm making it open twice as many tabs from a previous saved session, whereas chrome will load some pages and leave others blank as described by posters above. The blank pages eventually will get loaded (for me it is more like 5-10min, definitely not a few sec)

I'm using an average speed computer with 2G of ram and slow internet (cheapest rate timewarner offers in my area)

If I leave chrome open all the time and never close it I don't come across this problem, only when just firing chrome up.

For me chrome uses more total memory and each tab shows up as a different task in task manager whereas firefox just shows up as one task in task manager. The plus side to this is that if you happen to know which instance of chrome is tied to the tab that is bugging up your computer you can terminate just that process without closing all your other chrome tabs, whereas in firefox if you end the task you close every tab. The down side is that if you have some unwanted malware hijacking chrome you can appear to have closed chrome but when you open up task manager you find that some instances of chrome are still running even if they are not displayed on your desktop.

Firefox uses roughly half the memory chrome does(I've tweaked firefox settings and left chrome at default) and has a superior caching system.

I first started using chrome because it would give me the option to save passwords for my mail clients whereas firefox could not at the time(now both does)

I like the ?Recently closed? tabs feature in chrome a lot.

Only thing I still dislike about firefox is that it gradually consumes more and more memory if you leave it open all the time, like me.

oh and for those lucky people with fast internet that have never seen the blank page we?re talking about, below is the what the blank pages says and NO reloading right away does not help, just simply wait a few minuets(get a drink of water, do some stretches, take a biobreak, etc.) then reload. note: obviously when it happens to you it will display some other web address other than mail.google.com

Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to mail.google.com

Try reloading the page

    • iPhone 18 Pro drop-test video and photos leak on the dark web following a data breach by Hamid Ganji iPhone 17 Pro - Image via Apple Apple is seemingly facing one of the biggest data breaches in its history, and just a few months before the official debut of the iPhone 18 Pro series, photos, a drop-test video, a supplier list, and key phone components have reportedly been leaked by hackers. Last week, we reported that Tata Electronics, an Apple supplier and iPhone producer in India, was hit by a data breach. As a result, it was reported that more than 200,000 trade secrets and confidential documents belonging to Apple and Tesla were stolen by the ransomware group World Leaks. According to Reuters, the group has now leaked supplier lists, component details, and photos of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models on the dark web. One of the materials leaked by the hackers is a drop-test video of the iPhone 18 Pro, which is due to launch this September. The phone is shown in a gray color and has the same familiar design we saw on last year's iPhone 17 Pro series. The device also appears to be quite durable, though it seems to be thicker than last year's model. One possible explanation is that Apple may be using a larger battery in the iPhone 18 Pro series. Moreover, Reuters says it has seen at least six documents mapping many components in the iPhone 18 Pro models to their respective suppliers, including details on chips on the main circuit board and on battery and camera components. The documents reportedly detail hundreds of parts that will be used in the iPhone 18 Pro models. A person familiar with the matter told the outlet that Apple classifies this data as sensitive and “is concerned about the documents being shared on the dark web as they relate to unreleased models.” Apple is reportedly investigating the issue but has yet to issue an official statement.
    • You do you, I've just said that it first appeared in "home" version before it will be available in "work" one. I use Edge only because it still supports MV2 uBO extension even on Android - I'll switch when they stop.
    • I imagine that was a review or something? My reviews mostly contain a lot of images and galleries, but these are all webp too, but yeah it all adds up on the page load. Would help if you were more helpful with your critique instead of bitching and moaning like a Karen 😂 Because then we might be able to fix it for you.
    • If Valve refused to let them make the case, I wonder if they've already partnered with someone else to do it? The fact that they didn't seek permission/licence before diving straight in is incredible though
