Windows 8 coming in July 2011

Recommended Posts

A new release next year seems a bit abhorent to me, I cant fathom what they are going to include in 8 to warrant consumers upgrading again so soon but I guess therein lies the fun. Finding out what features it will be packing

While I used to think a new OS was great every 2 years, Windows 7 is pretty darn good right now. Windows 8 will probably be a great OS however most people especially novice users will take about a year just to switch or get used to Windows 7. Introducing a new OS with a different look and features will only confuse people more.

I think in the olden days technology was progressing so quick that a new OS was needed quickly however I would like to hold on to Windows 7 and just have Microsoft build or improve on it like Apple does with OS X.

or you went them to just to call it windows 7.1 ??

the just name it vista/8/9/10/whatever to not confuse users

Meh. Windows 7 is good enough, as long as I can log onto Facebook (play Farmville) and watch video, listen to my music. Why upgrade?

Probably will wait for Windows 9 before I upgrade, or see how Google's Linux system turns out.

What Google Linux OS are you talking about?

What Google Linux OS are you talking about?

ChromeOS - basically it is a Linux core with a web browser running ontop; no different than the snapdragon powered netbook by Lenovo to be released sometime this year. I question how well it'll operate considering how expensive mobile broadband is.

I can't wait to see what Windows 8 is like. MS said it will be a good change between 7 to 8. So can't wait! Hope it is a little similar in design to the Copenhagen Project thing. I loved that design. Wish it was the real OS! That would be the best OS yet if it were real as of now.

i hope the rumour is true

that way the OS can keep up with the technology

i would expect Windows to take more advantge of multicore

since by the time Quad-core would be common , Hexa-core is comming soon this year

It's one of these!

And I say "Bring it on!"

Lets see what it brings , i m a gamer and want my gpu and cpu to live long , so im hoping it to be even lighter than 7 , or even xp. Rest was fine for me since Xp :D

Windows 8 is great!!!!! I already downloaded it from my l33t torrent site (don't even ask about an invite, it's THAT exclusive) . ;)

ROFL!!!

An alternative is already there , xPUD

Sh*t, I just purchased a copy of Win7 Pro... any news on what to expect with Windows 8? More importantly, will Windows 8 be it's name? I'm sort of getting tired of the numbers... Windows 7 is an inept name for an OS especially one of Windows 7's caliber in comparison to its predecessor (Vista).

Tired of numbers? 2000 was the last time a consumer OS used numbers, the last time they used a version number was 3.1 (3.11 and NT4 were network operating systems).

I think the numbers do the product more justice, it's succinct, easy to remember. Can't name it Win2012 because server's use those. Win8 just makes more sense. To me anyway.

I'm on vista 64 bit currently. I was going to upgrade to 7 but I'll just wait for 8 now.

This isn't confirmed. It won't be next year considering 7 came out last year.

I think if Microsoft keep Window's current price plan, don't release 8 for another 4 or so years yet. While if it is going to turn out this way make it cheaper. Because this is just ridiculous. Businesses can't afford to continuously upgrade like this, and home users just won't care, leaving them more exposed to security risks in the future.

    • Payday TWO!! Is 13 years old man I feel old - I remember trying it out and if I did not know I would say 5-6 years ago or something
    • Payday 2 engine upgrade adds 64-bit and DX11 support, drastically shrinks install size by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Payday 2, the most popular entry in the heisting game franchise, is getting a surprising update after all these years. This is slated to be a complete engine upgrade that will enhance almost every aspect of the 13-year-old title, targeting performance, loading times, file size, rendering backend, and more. Developer Sidetrack Games is planning a beta to test out the new version ahead of the full public launch. The development team today revealed that the long-awaited upgrade to the 64-bit architecture is happening with this Diesel 3.0 engine update. By letting the game use more ram than 4GB, it is said to improve stability and compatibility on most hardware. It should also help modders in the long term with implementing larger changes too. "While many of the changes are made on the backend and not everything will be visible to you guys because it is a massive rewrite of the entire codebase, there will be a lot of things that you can look forward to," Sidetrack explained. Payday 2 will also hop over from DirectX 9 to 11. Instead of visual improvements, this is slated to reduce the amount of VRAM used by the title, letting more lower-end hardware access the title and run it better. Since these changes would require a complete redownload of the game anyway, Sidetrack says it has revamped "the game's packaging and bundling system." This should reduce the installation size from 86GB to 32GB. "So, now it's time to finally move the game to your SSDs," added the studio. The Payday 2 Diesel Engine 3.0 update is entering open beta on June 30 for Steam users. No console release plans were announced today. Sidetrack Games says it has been working on this complete rewrite of the codebase for the last nine months. While these changes should break most mods, the studio encouraged modders to use the beta period to repair their creations with support from the development team.
