official Guild Wars 2

Yeah, they've added jumping and swimming too, apparently. Bigger question is will they have an auction house?

I think it will, they worked some on adding one to the original GW. People found remnants of an entire new town dedicated and other things that were based around people selling items through private shops, an auction house simply adds a middleman into that so the seller doesn't have to sit idle waiting to sell his stuff.

EDIT:

Here we go: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Xunlai_Market

It was a dedicated town for trading, which would touch at least a little bit on the auction house front. I see no reason that they wouldn't go full-bore with an AH in GW2.

When they first started talking about GW2 back in 07, they were saying it would be a fully interactive world, and that included adding the Y Axis (ability to jump) in the game.

Guidl Wars has ALWAYS had a Y-Axis, that is why you could shoot at targets farther away if you were above them, and would have to get closer to shoot a target that was uphill from you. But, they are adding the ability to move along that Y-Axis with GW2. They are not adding a Y-Axis (it was already there), they are increasing the range of motion to include that Y-Axis. But yes, you will be able to jump and swim in GW2, which will be very nice.

Getting the higher ground was always an advantage to ranged attackers like the Paragon and Ranger.

without getting hyped or following it too closely i am looking forward to this game for the following reasons:

world pvp without factions

80 levels but no exp/time per level curve.

i really disliked the little time i spent with gw1. but gw2 seems to address the issues i had with it.

They're also revamping the skill system. You get 10 skill slots now, 5 are weapon and profession dependent, which can be changed by changing weapons, and 5 which are profession and race dependent, which can only be changed out of combat. One slot is reserved for a healing skill, and one is reserved for an elite skill.

On top of that, they are also attempting to lower the possibility of bad skill combinations, such as bringing Gash (which requires the opponent to be bleeding) without bringing a skill that causes bleeding.

GW was pretty unique in the way its skill system worked, limiting the skills you can use at any one time, which forced you to pay attention to what skills you had (unlike WoW which allowed you access to almost all of your skills at any time) to be effective. GW2 will be a little more open, with 2 more slots (one dedicated to healing and another dedicated to an elite), but it seems like it will still have limitations so you cannot simply use whatever skills you want whenever you want like most other MMOs.

In short, Tactics is still important in GW2, unlike virtually any other MMO out there (that is, you actually have to plan your skills and what not out beforehand, instead of just changing on the fly whenever you want) but it doesn't seem quite as limited as it was in the original, which can be a good change.

I enjoyed Guild Wars for the most part, but the fun didn't last too long. I filled my character slots and before maxing each one, I was bored. It was the same thing over and over again and the only options I really had were to unlock things for PVP. I liked the graphics and the different game play. It's great that it's free to play and you can come back a year later and jump back in.

The thing is, GW is already a "different" game but it's not different enough. They will really have to do something DIFFERENT to get my attention. They can say they're doing it, but in the end they all do.

Yea, that new video looked great.

I'm hoping they get the beta out this year. Which doesn't sound too unrealistic now considering they'll be having PLAYABLE demos at gamescom over in europe this month, and pax over here stateside a couple weeks later.

No, thanks. Bring on Cataclysm!

You're in the wrong thread if that increasingly disappointing sounding xpack is what you prefer.

I'm looking forward to it. The ability to jump instead of being tied to the ground will be a huge improvement alone. As for Cataclysm, meh. That was a fun game but it's getting way past it's sell by date. The graphics weren't that great in 2004.

Some people prefer game play over graphics.

And the graphics still look good. Better than most MMOGs.

I want a GOOD PvE, I really, really hate PvP. And by that I mean I LOATHE PvP. If it has a good PvE that separates me from the jackasses, I will play it.

Well that's just it, the game play isn't really that good either. It was once but it's still the same "go collect 60 murloc toes" that it's been for the last five years. The poor graphics are just one part of the problem. Every expansion is just more of the same.

Plus they've dumbed it down to the point that every five year old and his grandma can have a full set of epic gear in a week.

I'm wondering how the drop system will work in GW2. Will they allow farming like you could do in GW1? That was a lot of fun for me to do solo in GW1 not so much be cause I wanted the gold loot but because I loved going out and gathering a huge group of creatures and killing them all.

And then they revamped their loot system and that got more tedious than it was worth. I loved doing forge runs with my warrior too, again not because I really cared about getting money, it was just a fun thing to do. Each run was a challenge because the creature placement was always slightly different.

Great... so FPS, only worse.

Not only will we have bunny-hopping idiots, but bunny-hopping/combat-rolling idiots, too. Arg.

Except for it's not an fps. The only thing they're adding is the dodge that is different from most other mmos. I like the idea of being able to dodge.. it means most skills won't be auto aim. At least they shouldn't be or that would make the dodge pointless.

You could already kinda dodge things in gw1. Like, say an Ele was casting lightning orb at you, you could side step it if your timing wasn't too far off. Same with ranger arrows.

I'm not a huge fan of MMORPGs but this game is shaping up quite well. I enjoyed the Guild War games and expansions for a short while and I found it to be more "fun" than World of Warcraft.

Yeah... same here. And as an added bonus you don't have to pay $15 every month to keep playing. That's the best payment plan there is for an mmo. :woot:

Looks awesome, movement when casting (at least on some spells), the map looks good too, nice color and much more detailed, not as boring as the GW1 map. Animations look great, I like how it highlights the entire character model of who you have selected, makes them really easy to pick out in a crowd. Seems they still use the same projectile method as GW1 when it comes to movement. Shoot/cast where the target will be by the time the projectile travels that distance (shoot/cast ahead of the target), if it misses by too much physically, then it misses entirely. The only difference in terms of dodging, is you can roll out of the way, which is quicker than running that same distance.

Basically it looks like the dodging works exactly how it did in GW1, so no change there, its just easier to perform thanks to the dodging. I assume non-projectile skills will still be instant-hit and will not be affected by dodging either.

Lets hope the rumour to release a Mac/Linux version a couple of months after the Windows release is true, I'd love to play this but not enough to boot into Windows :p

That video got me interested enough to write Arena.Net a letter and shoot them my beta testing resume to see if they need more alpha/beta testers.

Wish me luck gang, if I get in I'll report back.
