Verizon 4G LTE Telecon Coverage

Recommended Posts

Verizon held a teleconference today at 12pm eastern time to discuss the release of their 4G network.

Here are the minutes of the conference:

allGeek.tv Covered this live starting at 12:00PM EST.

12:06PM – Tony Melone starts off by talking about the Verizon Wireless innovation center.

12:07 – Talks about the first 4g network of its size, and kind. On December 5th Verizon’s 4g LTE network will start by covering 1/3 of Americans most of I-95 in the southeast part of the country, Miami, San Francisco, So. California with L.A. being the largest (over 20,000,000 ). Plans to cover most of the country by 2013

12:11 – 4g will be the launching pad for mobile technology for the next 10 yrs. According to Tony.

12:13 – Enhances 3g, and helps them promote their strategy. Same people who built 3g helped build the 4g network.

12:14 – Talks about transfer rates of 5-12mbps down and 2mbps upstream. Other technologies can’t compare to the latency of 4g LTE. Two data plans will be launched initally. 5gb – $40.00/mo 10gb – $80.00/mo. Both plans will allow up to 10gb of overage at $10 per gb of data.

12:17 – Devices at initial launch will be LG, and Pantech. Both will be 4g LTE usb modems with 3g backwards capability.

12:19 – Tony Melone thanks everyone, and a BIG thank you to LG.

This is an interesting step forward. It will be exciting to see cell companies slowly start switching to 4G, and should change the way we use our mobile devices forever.

so it is mobile plan after all

i would take it anyday for that price point

except that i am in not in america

I still have a bug bear about LTE and WiMax being called 4G though.

while true

but that what is actually '3.9G'

is compatible with the true 4G 'LTE advance' network

Lol. Ah at the things wrong in that comment.

1. T-mobile manages to get 8mbps on their new HSPA+ network, and that isn't even the latest HSPA+ spec. Sprint's WiMAX has gotten anywhere between 5mbps and 14mbps, depending on your location.

2. LTE isn't 4G, it's 3.9g.

3. $40 a month for 5gb? Sprint's WiMAX network (for USB dongles) is $45 a month for unlimited data. T-Mobile's HSPA+ is $25 a month for unlimited data. What a ****ing ripoff.

It probably cost Verizon alot more than T-Mobile to install the infrastructure. LTE is more advanced from a technological point of view and so requires more new hardware than upgrading to HSDA+ would.

The bigger issue is also that Verizon is a CDMA network so there's a lot to install for GSM too. Overall, the cost of it I'm sure was pretty high they need to make that money back somehow.

While the pricing may be a valid issue of debate, I think the speeds that people are going to supposedly get arent that bad. People who check this forum are more apt to have faster internet, but I know people who still have 5mpbs internet in their houses. Getting 5-12mpbs while driving down the interstate on your laptop or cell phone is going to be pretty cool.

    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
