Over 8m people checked out the beta. Not bad.

Indeed. Should give them some quality data to fine tune the game for launch, and the first patch.

Also that parody video above was hilarious :)

I don't know if this has been posted but it confirms they are nerfing the ump-45 and pp2000. Lame sauce.

I used the hell out of the ump-45, but I also used the hell out of the m416, aek-91, and many other guns, and they all felt equally powerful. I think people complained about those two guns a lot because they're the first primary all-class weapons you unlock so everyone was using them. And if a lot of people use something it has to be over powered.

All-class weapons shouldn't take precedence over class-specific ones. They want us to play our part, and not all be united to 3-4 weapons.

I don't think they did though. All the guns I used felt equally strong in the beta and I tried to use as many different guns as I could from shot guns to pistols to bolt-action rifles. They all felt and handled great and nothing stood out to me as being "OP".

Honestly if any gun is over powered it's the magnum. 2 shot kill at any range, 1 head-shot kill at any range, and there is a scoped version. There were rounds I got more kills with that than I did with my primary weapon. I got asked many times if it was the strongest weapon in the game. But because it's a high rank unlock no one complained about it. On the other hand the ump-45 and pp2000 are unlocked early and everyone was using them so people equate that with being over powered and complaints ensue.

I just want slugs back in my shotgun and hardcore mode so I can go around one shotting people anywhere on their body and racking up 50:20 games like they're nothing. I ended the beta with a clean 2.0 KDR; it would be wonderful if it got even easier for me.

Saw that when it was posted, but also saw a contridicting post saying that wasnt the case.... i'm just gonna wait till the game is out to find out. the AEK971 was my fav gun, the 416 just seemed to have more recoil than I wanted.

The problem with the aek though is that it has a very high fire rate and if you aren't very accurate or you're doing suprressing fire you burn through your ammo in about 20 seconds. At least that was my experience with it. And compared to BC2 ammo crates aren't nearly as common, you can follow support guys around the entire map shooting them in the head with your pistol or knifing them all the while spamming "DROP AMMO CRATE!!" in team chat and get completely ignored. Though people will learn. Hopefully.

Yeah heard about that a while back (even posted a link I think?). UMP was OP, lets face it. But so was the AEK and M416 like you mention. I never really got on with the AEK, but the M416 was even more OP than the UMP IMO.

Had a friend who absolutely swore by the AEK (and to be fair he did destroy most things with it). Hopefully they have tweaked it so it is a bit more usable for me.

I don't recall, so many links have been posted in this thread.

And yeah, the m416 and aek with the hand grips were laser accurate. I never got to unlock the an-94, it was my next unlock before the beta ended but comparing those two guns to their BC2 versions they seem like rail guns, especially the aek. Which was considered by most the second worst gun in that game next to the f2000. Which oddly, the F2000 in BF3 was a death ray as well. Like I said before, all the guns I used felt very powerful. Only the magnum stands out as "over powered" to me.

Well when I played and used the AEk i used squad ammo and have run out of ammo before, but with the foregrip my accuracy is pretty spot on, when i do run out of ammo i ran around with the pistol, and coming from Counter Strike as my primary shooter, it was nice to use pistols that actually did damage lol. I agree, the support guys were never dropping ammo, i played mainly support and was dropping em like it was candy.

Im sure this is going to be considered a dumb question but anyways: What resolutns are the textures that are coming with the Xbox 360 version? 720p? Does installing the textures and installing them mean that. The game will actually be running in HD rather than upconverted like most/all other games?

It's more then likely texture compression of sorts more then anything which will mean improved and sharper textures one would assume...it won't change the resolution of the game or anything of that nature.

Think similar to how anisotropic filtering works:

Really sad that the g3 and m14 are not making it from bc2 :(

G3 is I believe M14 Isn't though at least from beta.

To be honest, I really don't give a **** about the SP. I play BF for the MP, not the SP.

I'll eventually play the single player but like Singh said, it's not why we get Battlefield games.

Yeah, maybe they're holding off for a launch trailer with SP footage. I'm definitely interested in playing it though. I was intrigued by the SP campaign in Medal of Honor. If they could have missions where you use different vehicles as well as follow a main story (e.g. save the US from getting nuked), then I think it could be pretty good.

yeah but if you are going to hype it like a true CoD killer, at least tell us about the SP...

Single player of Bad Company 2 was quite nice if not of high quality.

I have high hopes for the Single Player of BF 3.

Of course I am getting it for all the three:

SP

Co-Op

MP

But there are even people who are just buying it for SP, not even caring about MP or Co-Op

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
