Samsung Galaxy S II the best smartphone in the world ?

Recommended Posts

According to Engadget.

For a handset with such a broad range of standout features and specs, the Galaxy S II is remarkably easy to summarize. It's the best Android smartphone yet, but more importantly, it might well be the best smartphone, period. Of course, a 4.3-inch screen size won't suit everyone, no matter how stupendously thin the device that carries it may be, and we also can't say for sure that the Galaxy S II would justify a long-term iOS user foresaking his investment into one ecosystem and making the leap to another. Nonetheless, if you're asking us what smartphone to buy today, unconstrained by such externalities, the Galaxy S II would be the clear choice. Sometimes it's just as simple as that.

Drop it on the asphalt with the face down. Drop it in the toilet. Then jam it between a car door.

If it survives those, it's better than my Nokia.

Dont be a moron with your phone and you'll be fine. Most people have cases and protection for the screen. I love my Droid X but if I got the chance to upgrade to this.. I would def do so.

Not all of us are retarded to the point we drop our phones face down, drop it in the toilet, or jam it in the car door... lol :/

Some of us live on the edge, others don't :-)

The question is however ... how easy is it to root? :p

I had the first gen Galaxy S and it was super hard to root without almost bricking it.

I know this isn't how you're "supposed" to use a phone, but I like messing around with custom firmware so that's gotta be a prerequisite for me.

After reading the review last night i was like  - definitely wanna get it but gotta wait for the US version of it (no carrier crap please!). I'm on Windows Phone now and while i like it i still definitely miss Android.

Hardly the best phone, doesnt even have a qHD screen.

no phone is going to be a 10. yeah it hasnt got qHD but engadget says that doesnt matter much when its got possibly the best display tech with super amoled plus. Some may complain about lack of LTE or wimax, but im sure some variants will have it, or better without it. I am getting more battery life out of my vibrant keping it on 2G.

Never buy a Samsung again. I know Motorola and HTC are just as bad (but they deliver more timely), but Samsung says they are trying to correct it. No. They push broken phone, wait 4 months then update it and break it more. Then leave the user with a non working phone and if you're smart enough to go do XDA and flash Roms on it then you're good. Otherwise, they push a new phone out that comes with newer software..

never again Samsung.

I have to ask, why is the OS laggy and slow?

Samsung's ****ty TOUCHWIZ over beautiful Android OS. That's the problem.

Any and ALL delays were our glorious carriers fault, not Samsung, international version of the SGS got it's update fairly quick, just not us Americans because the carriers gotta screw around with it first

To be honest, it was probably both. Because with the SGS Vibrant leaks were coming out (at one time) every week. Soon after the JV16 was dropped. So yea, samsung might have delivered or tried to deliver updates and the Carriers had to dress up Touch with their bloatware. But Samsung still won't deliver the US users with Gingerbread. The UK SGS got it already, it was pulled by google because of issues.

Long ramble ends with. IMO It's both, the Carrier and Samsung's fault. I still won't buy another Samsung.

That program never worked for me, and I was trying on a Bell Fascinate GSM which is a rare version AFAIK.

We obviously need to work on your definition of 'living on the edge', or I hope you were being sarcastic.

I've done #1 & #3 with my Motorola Defy (... a few times) but have not done #2 even though it is Water resistant for such things.

Where can I get this phone in Toronto ? I want it !

Got the galaxy s with bell, I wonder if it would be easy to hook it up ?

I was thinking of waiting for the 2ghz processors samsung are planning to release soon before updating my handset again but this review has made it harder to wait.
