AOL has another go at AT&T Broadband

Looks like AOL, not content with it's share of the market place, wants to have another go at trying to buy AT&T Broadband, according to a story at CBS MarketWatch.

A successful bid by AOL Time Warner for AT&T's cable TV unit would make the media giant the nation's largest cable operator with roughly 26 million subscribers.

AT&T Broadband, with close to 14 million subscribers, is the biggest in the country; followed by AOL with about 13 million subscribers. No. 3 contender Comcast has 8.5 million subscribers.

While no deal has been defined, the proposal could merge AT&T Broadband with the Time Warner Entertainment unit. The partnership would give AOL an approximate 40 percent stake in AT&T Broadband, leaving AT&T as the majority shareholder.

The Associated Press said AT&T received at least two more offers for its cable television unit and expects to get more before the company's board meets at the end of next week.
