Crysis 3 PC requirements revealed; no Windows XP support

If you want to play Crysis 3 on your PC when it comes out in February 2013, you might want to save up some money to upgrade your gaming PC rig. The official website for the sci-fi shooter sequel has now revealed the minimal, recommended and high performance PC system requirements for Crysis 3, developed by Crytek and running on CryEngine 3.

Brace yourself; here's what you will need to run the game:

MINIMUM SYSTEM OPERATING REQUIREMENTS FOR PC:

• Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
• DirectX 11 graphics card with 1Gb Video RAM
• Dual core CPU
• 2GB Memory (3GB on Vista)
• Example 1 (Nvidia/Intel):
– Nvidia GTS 450
– Intel Core2 Duo 2.4 Ghz (E6600)
• Example 2 (AMD):
– AMD Radeon HD5770
– AMD Athlon64 X2 2.7 Ghz (5200+)

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM OPERATING REQUIREMENTS FOR PC:

• Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
• DirectX 11 graphics card with 1GB Video RAM
• Quad core CPU
• 4GB Memory
• Example 1 (Nvidia/Intel):
– Nvidia GTX 560
– Intel Core i3-530
• Example 2 (AMD):
– AMD Radeon HD5870
– AMD Phenom II X2 565

HI-PERFORMANCE PC SPECIFICATIONS:

• Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
• Latest DirectX 11 graphics card
• Latest quad core CPU
• 8GB Memory
• Example 1 (Nvidia/Intel):
– NVidia GTX 680
– Intel Core i7-2600k
• Example 2 (AMD):
– AMD Radeon HD7970
– AMD Bulldozer FX4150

You may have noticed that Windows XP is not shown as being supported on any of the three tiers of system requirements. The previous game in the series, Crysis 2, did in fact support Windows XP but it looks like Crytek is moving on from supporting the over 10 year old OS for Crysis 3. The game will also support DirectX11 graphics cards only as well.

I guess "XP haters are gonna hate" but remember, XP was a great OS and if you really want to knock an OS, try for something a little more known to be a flop... like Windows ME or Windows Vista...

Why would they support an outdated operating system?

exactly they should have dropped Vista and maybe even windows 7 too !

and why ? because maybe they want paying customers to have the game they want ?
maybe since the OS runs games really fast that has some reason to it ?

I guess if you don't run dx11 on your games then its crap then ?
you should go remind the few million playing diff versions of various valve games.

I think XP haters are about as irritating as Windows 8 fanboys !

If you can't afford an OS upgrade after ten years for a high end game, you're not exactly considered a 'paying customer.'

Time to upgrade. Money was starting to burn a hole in my pocket.

My 460GTX won't cut it anymore. I won't dare sit with min specs. 6-series here I come!

I'd suggest you to hold off a bit. Crysis will come in late February and by that time the new cards will be announced, henceforth prices will drop for current gen.

BUT, if you find a great deal, then go ahead!

The phrase "But can it run Crysis?" has officially returned.

Good! I actually liked that I had a game that could really test my system after I did various upgrades. I remember having to run Crysis on medium to low settings when it came out, but I can run it on full now and it still looks good to this day.

Crysis 2 though was clearly just a poor console port, to it's detriment. Also the game felt like the action was on rails with no freedom of movement. Also it didn't really tax anybody's systems.

Good riddance with DirectX 9 and XP. haha poor XP suckers. xP

funny thing is i bet anyone of them could lay a beating on you with benchmarks using the same hardware.. who's laughing now buddy LOL

Everyone? At you?

3770k, GTX 660, w7x64 - highest everything but no AA and I get 35FPS @ 1920x1080
Personally, I think AC3 looks better

Than what? This game isn't out yet.

lol. You're right, was talking about Far Cry 3...too many "3's" out there...

The alpha version is out there for a while

It's an early alpha version of the multiplayer only component of the game... not really an ideal candidate for comparison.

I am stuck here to AMD RADEON HD 7690M XT 2 GB DDR5 DEDICATED VRAM
in my HP Laptop, which I bought 6months ago.
I cant' do crossfire, SLI, or anything

Thank you for ditching DX9/Windows XP. Such a drag on the evolution of the computing platform!

myth or reality ?

show me proof that the developers were handicapped because of back porting code to work on older OS's.
And if we're gonna jump on the band wagon and be smug about this issue then tell something..
What is the Linux equivalent of XP then ?
In other words how old of a distrib should we start crying and whining and searching late at night with pitch forks to get the bad OS ?

Nation of "experts" eh ?
I may or may not know the answer but at least i don't march around with an aggressive and offensive attitude towards a product or service with NO real basis.

XP haters are ridiculous !
It was and is a great OS and deserves respect. Treating it like its a virus on a rampage taking down systems across the globe or something is retarded.

XP was a great OS, but it is old and hanging on to legacy development hurts current and proper development. Look at consoles, and terrible optimizations on current PC games. Games that were made with DX9 have terrible DX11 implementations. Had they been done completely with DX11 in mind they would shine so much brighter.

Look at Crysis 1, 2007, we should have had todays PC engines in 2008-2009. DX9, consoles, and XP all had a hand in screwing us over and taking us steps back instead of only steps forward.

Bottom line. Stop calling those that want a proper evolution of hardware and software smug. It's 10 freaking years old. Get over it and move on and stop spreading ignorant propaganda.

And even if you lack ALL of the recommended hardware, unless you're broke/unemployed, it won't cost a mint - or even half a mint.

High-performance PC alternatives:

CPU - i5-3570K (Intel) OR FX-4130 (AMD)
System Memory - 8GB DDR3-1333 (4GBx2)
GPU - GTX660 (nVidia) or HD7770 (AMD) (single OR dual)
HDD - 1TB SATA 3.0 Gb/sec (boot/storage)
OS - Any of the following: Vista Home Premium/7 Home Premium/8 Pro (x64).

ya but at what FPS ?
20 ? 30 ? 60 ?
Shouldn't that be important ?
Reminds me of the old days when millions of retards would say you can't tell the difference on Counter-Strike if you could get as high as 60fps on a CRT monitor running as high as 100 or 120khz.
I sure as damn well can tell instantly.. And i could ABX the issue 100% of the time guaranteed !
Just like some mouthy morons over at the Adult Swim forums who said Metalocalypse doesn't need to come out on Bluray because no one can tell the difference between that and dvd quality LOL
Once again i could abx that all day long !
Just like Flac vs MP3, i spent some time on many occasions using a Foobar plugin called ABX and i could tell 100% on some tracks which were which..
People are super stupid.

1680x1050 and 30 fps, which is actually slightly *worse* than what Crysis 2 does on the same hardware today with the DX11 and High Resolution Texture patches - I'm allowing for a tougher test in Crysis 3 due to possibly larger textures than even a fully-upgraded C2.

And as I stated before - that won't cost a mint ($1,500USD), or even half-a-mint ($750USD). It may cost a peppermint ($600USD) - and that's assuming you have ONLY the OS covered (you have to buy all new hardware otherwise).

I hate it when my specs are all over the place with parts in each category of recommendation. Makes it hard to figure out where I'll stand performance wise

Concentrate on processor and graphics card mainly. Even if one of those is great, if the other is low it'll be the bottleneck.

fair enough and i'll save you the patronizing lecture *assuming your an idiot lol
which obviously by what you said you have a grasp off what is going on
