Free Xbox Music Pass to first 100 people in line for Surface at Microsoft Stores

The value of the Surface tablet just got a bit better if you live near a Microsoft Store location in the US and Canada and will line up to buy the tablet on Friday. The company announced today that the first 100 people in line on Friday at their Microsoft store locations will receive a free one year Xbox Music Pass, which is normally valued at $99.

The Xbox Music Pass is the new name for the Zune Music Pass, which allows its users to stream millions of music tracks on their Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Xbox 360 devices (the Xbox 360 also requires a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription). Microsoft's page also says there will be unnamed "Xbox prizes" that will be given out as part of the Surface launch.

When Friday comes around, Microsoft will have about 60 Microsoft Store locations open in North America, which includes the 34 holiday stories that the company will open on October 26th but will likely close soon after the holiday shopping season. There's no word yet on exactly home many units of the Surface will be available in those stores on Friday.

Sad that Microsoft has to "pay" people to stand in line in front of their store for one of their products...

I'd buy it without a freebee if my current tablet did not work so well.

Apple also give out freebies from time to time. For example, when the Apple store in Barcelona opened, the people got free shirts and an ipod touch.

Sad that fanboys are so hateful towards a company that they assume that doing something nice = buying people off. It must really suck to have your way of thinking.

Sony gave away a TV to the first people queing, iirc it was a 38 inch Bravia worth a lot more. Its not an uncommon thing to do with the launch of a new product.
Go and fail to troll somewhere else

NOOOOOO...I too was planning to be in and out before 9:45, because I've to be at work at 10:30. Damn you Microsoft! Will have to find excuse to come in later I guess..

Damn, that's actually awesome.
And it's freaking 12 months. Even if you don't want it, you could always sell it on ebay for a good price.

this will probably make the line bigger earlier... so much for getting in and out before 9:45 (my store opens at 9:30)

I'm going to stand in line at the store in Oak Brook, Illinois, and if they're expecting huge lines I'm worried I'm not going to be able to get the one I want (32GB with a Cyan Touch Cover). I guess I'll just have to get there super early...

That makes two of us. They said they'll start lining people up at 7am and store opens at 10am. 3 hours of just hanging out.

Me too Unfortunately the fine print says:

Limited time offer; only valid with purchase on 10/26 at Microsoft store, while supplies last. Microsoft online store excluded.
