What do the shops have to gain by lowering their prices just for one search engine? I guess they are just MS partners, or is it on absolutely anything?

This is how it works:

- when you use a search engine or link through from one site to the other, and you buy something, the site you bought at gives a percentage ("kickback") to the site you came from. This could be a search engine too.
- sites like this, simply decide to share the kickback with you

Yeah but if the site never had to pay for the privilege of being marketed that way by MS, then their prices wouldn't be higher in the first place (or is this just a way for shops to effectively raise their prices for everyone except MS searches, but then they stand to lose money against competitors who aren't MS partners who have lower prices across the board)... and it turns out you actually do only get "cash back", you have to wait 60 days for it instead of actually getting a live percentage off the price. I don't really see how this is supposed to be better than sites like fatwallet or coupon search sites, etc

Some things you get a higher percentage back from fatwallets cashback. Some are more with this one.

Fatwallet doesn't require a minimum which is nicer.

this is really lame tho, it tells you for example from Circuit City that you can get 3-13% but when you go to their site you don't know what you get 3 and what you get 13% discount on....

Yes but if you go through the LIVE URL, the shopping links work. If you go through MSN, they don't.

I dunno why, but that is what I see.

Ah, welcome to the mess that is MSN/Microsoft Web Portals...

I guess they couldn't get people to use Live Search through making a good search so they just decided to buy your business lol

I'm sorry - since when was MS forbidden from creating new services? If it was some other search engine, I bet you'd thin it was cool. Hypocritical.

Note: ^^ This is coming from someone who obviously hasn't owned a Zune.

I have a Zune and love it. In fact, nearly to a person, the sentence that comes after "I own a Zune", is almost always "It's better than an iPod."

Yeah, I don't care for them, I don't care much for iPods either. I think there are plenty of other brands out there that do a much better job, often for less money, but everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Yep, always is with me! The main reason it's better than an iPod is because you don't have to use iTunes!
