Kin promo video edited after 'sexting' complaints

Microsoft has apologised via tweet after it was suspected one of the promotional videos for the recently announced Kin mobile phone series contained material encouraging 'sexting'. The tweet read, "Microsoft has deleted the inappropriate portion of the Kin video. We take sexting very seriously, & are sorry it happened".

Consumer Reports raised the issue on their blog, pointing out a sequence of the video where a young man takes a photo of one of his bare breasts under his t-shirt. The sequence was labelled "downright creepy" and Microsoft has since removed it from the promotional video on the Kin website.

The video provided by Consumer Reports refers to the young man taking the photo and sending it to a friend at around the 33 second mark.

A guy taking a picture of his chest and sending it to his girlfriend is hardly sexting . People will always have to bitch and moan about something.

I agree. Dude taking a picture of his chest. Big deal. Now if it was south of the Mason-Dixon line, that would be a different story.

Racism, usage of Chinese slaver-workers, child labor, gross IE ads giving the idea that everyone that uses the Internet is a depraved, advertisement of a product targeted at teens featuring/supporting indecent behavior from a minor (...).

What else can MS do wrong...? I'm even afraid of what could come out next.

I dunno how anyone got "creepy" from that especially since the girl laughed at it in the picture. If she was like OMG NO MANBEWBS *faint* that would be one thing, but this is only in good clean fun.

It's not like we don't see bare man chests on normal cable TV (and even kids TV?) occasionally.

It's supposed to just be funny, I think that's an entirely realistic thing to happen in that situation.

+2

Who in their right mind would file a serious complaint against that. Some people really need to stop being so bitchy over nothing.

Overbearing soccer moms? These people are almost always soap-addicted stay-at-home mothers with nothing to do but nitpick at the day-to-day lives of their crotchfruit.

I really hate that ad. And that part was downright disgusting.

Sure the ad was a little unconventional (just a tad), but nothing strikes me as "loathes-worthy". What about the commercial (as a whole) has you going banana-sandwich?

Oh god, the male chest! Oh no! </sarcasm>
You forgot the beginning <sarcasm> tag. It would render improperly without that.

Yeah and bbcode uses [sarcasm], not <sarcasm>. HTML is not allowed in forums.

It had furries in it, too

I doubt they really intended those guys with the heads to be furries, but it's possible.

Well he could've put the phone down his pants, that would have been funnier. What can you do right nowadays, everything you do draws criticism. Oh and oooooo, that tit was "downright creepy".

wait, whats wrong with sexting?

nothing, until someone underage takes a picture of their yoohoo and txts it. Then it becomes distribution of child pornography.

Will result in a national ban on MMS messages before its all said and done. After all, it's for the children.

Generally speaking, it's okay for minors to shower together on school property, but depict that exact same nudity--even of yourself--in a text message and you're a sick, disgusting pervert with no hope of rehabilitation and your life should be forever ruined by a registry that encourages vigilante neighbors to harass you on your property for the rest of your life.

Of course, it's totally legal for two 16 year olds to have sex with each other. All kinds of dirty, bizarre, unspeakable sex. They can totally consent to completely giving unlimited access to each other's bodies. But if they DARE pose for a picture, off to jail with them!

We're a very strange species. Only we could find a way to be so offended by reality that pictures of perfectly legal behavior are illegal.

lol holy crap, send me to jail then, cause i think ive still got the videos of me and my gf from when we were 15 having sex, somewhere.. hahaha.

the world has gone mad.

This is nothing new at all. lol I think it's stupid to put a label to "types" of texting. Especially a label as dumb as "sexting".

'sexting' ARRRRRRGGG!

Please someone banish that word from the English language.

Sure, lets do that. While we're at it, let's ban all of the other words which have been brought about by the technology revolution.

Hell, while we're at it; let's go back to Old English. It's the most complete form of the language we'll ever need.

I have a dirty mind and that didn't convey "sexting" to me.
It was just a fat dude having a laugh and taking a picture of his moob

Asian Mephistopheles.

LOL The first time I saw this video, I said "this is a phone made by stoners for stoners". That's what the ad conveys to me. The ad shows nothing about social networking. The ad depicts a stoner orgy.

I see NOTHING about stoners/smoking/etc in this video. Maybe the stoner is you.
