Long-Lifetime Red and Blue OLEDs Presented

Cambridge Display Technology has presented new materials for red and blue OLEDs (Organic Light Emitting Diodes), said to have impressively extended lifetimes. This development has brought large-size full-color displays that make use of the new technology one step closer.

The UK company claims to have produced in cooperation with the Japanese chemical concern Sumitomo Chemical phosphorescent red OLEDs with an efficiency of over 7cd/A whose initial luminance of 100cd/m2 is said to take some half a million hours to fall to half its initial value (with a drop in the initial value by half being the definition of a lifetime). According to CDT's statements "this is a record for lifetime of solution-processable" OLEDs.
