Lumia 800 gets Dark Knight Rises special edition

While The Dark Knight Rises isn't due to be released to theaters until the summer of 2012, the marketing tie-ins for the latest Batman movie have already started. Slashgear reports from London that Nokia has create a very limited edition of the Lumia 800 smartphone that has a black finish and has the Batman logo laser etched on the back. The phone was spotted in London before a preview screening of a few minutes of The Dark Knight Rises.

You can see the smartphone in a video above this post. The phone's packaging is itself wrapped in its own special black cover, again with the Batman logo. Turning on the special version of the Lumia 800 reveals the film's main villain Bane on the phone's start up screen and there are more Batman logos seen on the Windows Phone-based tile screen.

The article claims that only 40 units of these limited edition Lumia 800 phones have been made, so your chances of getting one are pretty slim unless someone decided to put one up on eBay. Even then, we suspect the bidding price to go through the roof.

Such a shame WP7 gets hardly any coverage here.

Is that sarcasm? WP gets far more coverage than it deserves, considering it's a struggling also-ran platform that has managed to gain less than 1% of the market and is outsold more than 2:1 by Samsung's Bada, an OS most people have never heard of. The real question is why anyone talks about WP at all.

Spoken like a true fanboy. What's the matter, don't like competition?

And quotes by the Joker as ringtones!!

I always hated when companies do that. Microsoft loves to do that with their Xbox consoles and now Nokia is doing it with their phones. It's not just Microsoft and Nokia. Motorola did it with their R2-D2 Droid 2. I think it's just silly.

P.S. Will the new batman movie feature Windows Phone at all. If not I don't see the point.

I've been told I'm very good at annoying ignorant people. So I guess you have your answer.

Seeing as the Lumia 800 is quite a popular phone, I have a feeling that it will be in The Dark Knight Rises. If you remember they used a Nokia 5800 in The Dark Knight.

Was the R2-D2 Droid 2 in any of the Star Wars films? No, it wasnt.

I don't remember that phone being in the movie. Gotta re-watch that movie. As for the Droid 2, that's why I said those type of branding are just stupid. I understand they are riding off the whole "Droid" branding. But to me it is ridiculous.

The Nokia 5800 Xpress Music featured in The Dark Knight (It was nokia's flagship phone at the time)

Makes sense they keep the partnership going.

Nokia had done product placements in the past. Recent ones are N93i in Transformers, 5800 in The Dark Knight, N8 in Tron, X7 & N950 in Transformers 3 and some concept Nokias in Star Trek and Real Steel.

Star Trek also featured a version of their signature tone. (Old one? they got a horrible new version for WP7 right?)

For the exception of Dark Knight and Star Trek (I assume you are talking about the J.J. Abrams one), I haven't seen any of those other movies.

I guess that means they don't count. Hmm, what profound tunnel-vision logic.

Furthermore, ignorant people aren't the ones that generally get annoyed. It's the ignorant stubborn people that annoy those with knowledge.

I guess this means I'm butthurt too. Uh oh!

The concept Nokia in Star Trek is from this scene http://www.engadget.com/2009/0...red-in-new-star-trek-movie/

The 5800 "Tube" is used as a kind of EMP to disrupt the electricity supply to a building. (Someone else might like to help me out here)

Nokia have a history of product placement in films and TV shows.

I never did say they don't count. Again I'll say it, the reading comprehension in this forum is seriously lacking. Perhaps this site will help out http://hop.com

Ignorant people are the ones that get annoyed when you start throwing logic in their face. Just saying.

Your last statement I can definitely agree with. We finally agree on one thing.

The concept phone I was aware of. But I guess what I really want to know is, does Bruce Wayne/Dark Knight use a Windows Phone? It would be funny if he did. It's kinda like seeing Jack Bauer download things really fast on his Sprint Smartphone over 3G.
