Shark spotted in new Grand Theft Auto V screenshots

Yes, we know that Grand Theft Auto V has yet to be announced for the PC, but it would be a major shock if the latest game in the hugely popular open world action series would be the first to bypass the PC platform. Today (yes, Christmas Eve) Rockstar released several new screenshots from the game that offer some interesting glimpses of its world.

One screenshot from the set, shown above, shows what is clearly a shark swimming around in the ocean, which would seem to indicate that there will be live sharks to avoid in this version of the world.

Another screenshot shows what looks like the tip of a big commercial airliner. Does that mean you will get to pilot such a vehicle in the game world? It wouldn't surprise us; Grand Theft Auto V is supposed to be the biggest game in the series, set in the state of San Andreas, a fictional version of California.

The game will be released sometime in the spring of 2013 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. We suspect that the unannounced PC port of the game would be coming out several months later, around the end of 2013.

Funny in the second image Neowin points out the Airliner but completely misses the airship in the background...

Lol at spotted. Sucks the PC version comes out months later. But I'm really hoping they don't tie the Games for Windows thing to it again - I want to at least be able to play it online using WINE or dream to play it natively in Linux

LOOKS amazing. AC3 and Farcry 3 both impressed me with great graphics and good gameplay, I never finished any AC before 3...have a feeling GTAV will be done right...just hope the don't FU the PC version...

I like the looks of the screenshots, but they really need to fix the gameplay for it to work for me.
Remember going on insane killing sprees in Vice City, diving in to a tank and taking on apache helicopters? That was great fun for me, and really increased the amount of time I played the game.
With San Andreas it was just too big to finish the storyline, but I still had endless fun doing completely insane things away from the missions.
GTA 4...for me, there was too much attempt at realism instead of the fun physics from the previous games. The story was also fairly monotonous with repetitive tasks ("Hey Niko, let's go bowling!"). I didn't end up getting close to the end, I think I only got to the 2nd island before giving up.

If they can bring back the fun, I'll be sure to get it sooner rather than later. If it sticks with the current trend, I may pick it up when it hits the bargain bin.

When GTA is followed by a number, the game play usually has a serious story line. When the title is followed with a location name, it turns out to be a "fun" mess around. If they went with the trend of making all GTA games with silly mess around missions with no seriousness I personally would find the series becoming boring.

Not sure what your first experience was with GTA, but I found all GTA games to be great, and I hope one day they'll return to London. I would also love to see something done with the Asian side of the continent.

Ah, for the record I've played all of them (well, minus the DLC in the later games). But from San Andreas onwards I haven't finished a game for the reasons stated above.

I assume you have played Saints Row: The Third, Intrinsica? I feel the same way about GTA. I really hate the seriousness with GTA4. I have tried on three separate occasions to beat it and I only ever get to the second island/zone before I put it down.

Saints Row kind of became what I thought GTA was, and GTA took a serious route, which they look to be doing again in GTA 5. I will also be waiting for it to be in the bargain bin. Sadly, I doubt we will be getting a 4th Saints Row, and that sucks, as I honestly think it is better and way more of a blast than what the GTA franchise has become.

To each their own. I really like the way GTA has gone, and personally for me, the gameplay is what actually drove me to complete the ****ty storyline, including the DLC.

Saints Row: The Third however had awesome characters with a fun story, but the crappy gameplay and weak missions leave me closing the game out every time.

Personal preference really. I say let them continue down the road they've chosen. They seem to be progressing well, and for everything ridiculous, there's the Saints.

Saints Row 4 is scheduled for release in 2013.

I haven't played it personally, but I saw a friend playing the 3rd game and it seemed right up my alley when it comes to mindless mayhem.
Thanks for reminding me. I'll be sure to check it out on Amazon sometime in the next few days to give it a bash. I'm sure I'll have a laugh with it.

As for Saints Row 4, I'll be sure to keep an eye on it. Maybe if it comes out soon I might hold off on SR3...we'll see, it's been a day of..."merriment" and I don't want to make a rash decision.

Oh, cool. I didn't know that. The last I heard THQ cancelled the DLC planned for Saints Row 3, and I thought they were going under, that franchise included. Thanks for the tip!

I would recommend Saints Row 3 even before 4. It is a blast! I think it is on Steam for like $7 during the holidays.

You must NOT miss out on SR3... Not to spoil anything for you, but you get to smack people in the face with large purple dildos. 'nuff said!
