After ditching XPS branding, Dell unveils Premium laptops starting at $1,649

Earlier this year, Dell made a decision that made almost everyone scratch their head in confusion. In a bid for simplification, the company decided to ditch its iconic XPS and Inspiron branding in favor of terms that seem borne from memes, such as "Pro" and "Pro Max". Last month saw the reveal of the Dell Pro Max Plus, and now, the firm has unveiled its latest Dell Premium laptops, the successor to its popular XPS series.

The Dell 14 Premium and Dell 16 Premium are the successors to last year"s XPS 14 and XPS 16. The laptops feature Intel Core Ultra 2 processors, along with multiple AI engines - since that"s all the rage these days. You"ll also find an RTX 4050 GPU in the 14 Premium, whereas the 16 Premium hosts an RTX 5060 for now. For the latter, Dell plans to release other variants with the Intel Arc 140T, RTX 5050, and RTX 5070 GPUs down the line.

As used to be the case with the XPS series, Dell has touted the displays of its Premium laptops too. The devices offer display sizes of 14.5- and 16.3-inches with InfinityEdge bezels, going up to 4K resolution at 120Hz refresh rates, and OLED and touch options. Similar to XPS variants in past years, the key differences in 14 Premium and 16 Premium are related to compute power, graphical prowess, display sizes and quality, and battery life.

Dell has also reminded customers that support for Windows 10 is ending on October 14, and as such, its Premium laptops with Windows 11 Home are "future-ready". The company thinks that its latest hardware is most suitable for students, creators, and entrepreneurs.

The Dell 14 Premium starts at $1,649, whereas the Dell 16 Premium with the RTX 5060 carries an eye-watering price tag of $2,699. Both devices are available in Graphite and Platinum colors right now, but the Dell 16 Premium with other GPU options will be available at a later date, prices for those are currently unknown.
