Age of Empires IV is set in the medieval era, gameplay trailer released

The fourth entry in the Age of Empires series was announced over two years ago, which Bill Gates may have had something to do with. Years later, today at Microsoft"s special X019 Inside Xbox stream, we finally received a first look at its gameplay, see it above.

The pre-alpha footage straight from Relic Entertainment might give fans some slight Total War vibes, considering the scale. The familiar theme can be heard in the background too. The two civilizations we see in the video are the English and the Mongols, all coming in from the medieval era.

There still isn"t a release date attached to the game yet. In addition to this big reveal, however, Microsoft also had something else up its sleeve. The recently established Age of Empires-centric game studio led by Shannon Loftis now has a name, World"s Edge. This new studio is lending a hand to Relic"s Age of Empires 4 endeavors and is also taking care of the series as a whole.

For those who can"t wait to get some new Age of Empires in their lives, don"t forget that Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition released earlier today on PC.
