Amazon has announced a new redesigned Kindle Scribe lineup at its fall hardware event, which also includes the first-ever color Kindle Scribe with AI-powered features and more.
Similar to its predecessor, Amazon says that its latest Kindle Scribe also feels just like paper, but this time, it comes with an ultra-thin body at just 5.4mm (thinner than the recently announced iPhone Air!), and is also lighter than its predecessor at 400g, with a large 11-inch glare-free display that mirrors the dimensions of a standard sheet of paper.
The new front light system uses miniaturized LEDs for a thinner bezel and more uniform illumination, while a texture-molded glass surface improves pen friction and nearly eliminates parallax for an authentic handwriting experience. Amazon says that the device is backed by a new quad-core chip, more memory, and a new Oxide display. The company has also refreshed the pen bundled with the device, which attaches magnetically to the device and never needs charging.
What"s entirely new this year is the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, with "a custom-built Colorsoft display technology," which comes with a color filter, nitride LEDs, and a unique rendering engine.
Amazon also announced several new features, including AI-powered search on the Kindle Scribe lineup:
- All-new Home: From our all-new Home, we’ve added Quick Notes so you can easily jot something down whenever inspiration strikes. You can also open recently opened and added books, documents, and notebooks.
- Access all your docs: With support for Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, it’s easy to import documents for mark-up and export annotated PDFs.
- AI-powered search: Search your notes naturally across your notebooks and you’ll get simple AI summaries. You can also dig deeper with follow-up questions.
- Send to Alexa+: Early next year, you’ll be able to send your notes and documents from Kindle Scribe to Alexa+ and have a conversation about them.
- Share notebooks with OneNote: Export your notes as converted text or as an embedded image to OneNote so you can keep them all in one place and keep editing from your laptop.
- Color pens and highlights: Write, draw, and annotate in one of 10 pen colors or highlight in one of 5 highlighter colors.
- Shading: Artists and creators can create smooth gradients and subtle tones with our new shader tool, giving you even more control over the depth and richness of your art.
- Workspace: Organize your documents, notebooks, books, and more in the same folder.
Amazon is bundling 3 months of its Kindle Unlimited subscription when you buy either of the devices. Amazon says that its new Kindle Scribe devices will be available later this year in the U.S. Pricing starts at $499.99 for the standard Kindle Scribe, $629.99 for the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, and $429.99 for a model without a front light, which will be available early next year.
