Anthropic is giving Claude a boost to solve fintech with new Excel add-in and more

Anthropic"s Claude is making an entry into the financial services sector by introducing new tools that are specifically designed for finance professionals. These updates include an Excel add-in, real-time market data integration, as well as Agent Skills that could automate a lot of financial tasks.

The Excel add-in would allow Claude to read, analyze, modify, and even create new Excel workbooks with full transparency about its actions. Claude would also be able to debug formulas, explain spreadsheet structures, populate templates with fresh data, and build complex financial models from scratch. Claude already connects with other Microsoft 365 apps such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, and Teams, allowing enterprise users to work with their data. With this, Anthropic wants to solve one of finance"s most complex tasks – maintaining and evolving financial models.

Anthropic has also developed a lot of connectors for Claude to access real-time market data. These include:

  • Earnings call transcripts and investor event summaries via Aiera.
  • Expert insights and industry analysis through Third Bridge.
  • Private equity analytics from Chronograph.
  • Secure search capabilities for internal financial documents via Egnyte.
  • Market data including equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, and macroeconomic indicators from LSEG.
  • Credit ratings, research, and company data from Moody’s.
  • Multi-asset class news through MT Newswires.

This would allow Claude to take action on up-to-date and relevant data, rather than something more fragmented.

Finally, Anthropic announced six finance-specific Agent Skills. They are:

  • Comparable company analysis featuring refreshed valuation multiples.
  • Discounted cash flow models complete with free cash flow projections and sensitivity analyses.
  • Due diligence processing that converts data room documents into structured Excel spreadsheets.
  • Generation of company teasers and profiles for investment presentations.
  • Earnings analyses that summarize key quarterly transcript metrics and management commentary.
  • Initiating coverage reports incorporating industry analysis and valuation frameworks.

These skills are pre-built and customizable workflows that are designed to reduce manual effort in repetitive financial tasks and also enhance the accuracy and efficiency of complex valuation and reporting activities.

All of these features are rolling out in preview for Max, Enterprise, and Teams users, and interested users can sign up here.
