Core App Updates now available for Windows 8.1

It looks like aside from the "GA Rollup A" Update - which should become available in Windows Update soon - all of the core apps for Windows 8.1 are also getting a refresh for todays 7am ET GA release of Windows 8.1.

To get the updates, open the Windows Store app > Charms menu > select App Updates, and then check for updates. The updates include enhancements and performance fixes made from the original release of Windows 8.1.

Among the updates are also Windows 8.1 exclusive apps they are:

  • Windows Calculator
  • Windows Scan
  • Windows Sound Recorder
  • Bing Health and Fitness
  • Windows Help and Tips
  • Windows Alarms
  • Windows Reading List

While my install only had 19 updates available, others may vary from anything below or up to around 24 apps. Most appear to be performance related updates; the Mail app gets another visual change that puts more emphasis on Folders, Social and Newsletters, each display emails for that category or a sub menu for the Folders selection, emails can be moved into the Inbox if they are incorrectly categorized as Social or Newsletter.

The Mail app gets another navigation update.

Movie Moments, which is also Windows 8.1 exclusive, has also just become available in the Store You can find it by searching for it.
