Just in time alongside the latest iPhone lineup and the freshly baked iOS 26 update, Apple has some new perks for Apple Sports. The free app that provides real-time scores, stats, standings, and other stuff is now getting support for Home Screen widgets on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
The Apple Sports app is available only for iPhone; however, Apple has made it possible to access its widgets on iPad and Mac if you have the same Apple ID on all devices.
"Widgets give fans the ability to customize their iPhone Home Screen with their favorite teams and leagues. Widgets can also be accessed on iPad and Mac, giving fans scores and schedules for their favorite leagues and teams on even more platforms," Apple said in a press release.
On iOS, you can add a widget by long-pressing on an empty area on the Home Screen. Then, tap on "Edit" in the top-left corner > Add Widget. While adding the Apple Sports widgets, you can pick the "My Teams" view for scores and upcoming schedules for your favorite teams. There is also a "League" view to keep an eye on the scores and schedules for every team in the league.
Apple said that you can customize Apple Sports widgets on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac differently as per your preference, adding that there is no limit on how many widgets you can add to the home screen.
The app already supports the Live Activities feature to show real-time scores directly on the Lock Screen and Apple Watch. You can now schedule Live Activities in advance for any upcoming event in the app.
The new widgets arrive just around the football season, and the Apple Sports app is expanding to cover more leagues. It has added support for more European football competitions: 2. Bundesliga, Ligue 2, Segunda División, Serie B, and Primeira Liga.
Launched in February 2024 in the US, UK, Canada, and later Mexico, the Apple Sports app is now coming to eight new countries, including Austria, Germany, France, Iceland, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain. To access the new features on your devices, you should be running the latest software update and the latest version of Apple Sports, which is v3.3.
