Apple's iOS 12.1 code hints at October 2018 launch of new iPads

Apple"s major event this month came to pass with a slate of new iPhones, leaving no mention of next-generation iPads. However, the tech giant"s newly released iOS 12.1 contains code hinting at new iPads which could debut in the fall.

According to 9to5Mac, the new Setup app used to initiate an Apple device for the first time includes a reference to "iPad2018Fall", suggesting the new generation of iPads may be coming in October.

As it"s only a string of code, it remains unknown what the new iPads will look like. Apple also remains mum on when and if it plans to launch its next-gen tablets this year. Traditionally, the Cupertino-based company would hold two iPad events every October, so it"s safe to assume Apple will be taking the wraps off of the new iPads next month.

While nothing is official about what the next iPads have in store for consumers, previous rumors already offered a glimpse of what could be expected of the upcoming tablets. Last week, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the new iPad Pro will be switching to USB Type-C. Earlier this month, new unofficial renders showed off an iPad Pro that seemed to be inspired by the design of the iPhone 4.
