Blizzard announces Warcraft III: Reforged, remake set for release next year

Released in July of 2002, Warcraft III was the latest in Blizzard"s beloved fantasy-themed RTS franchise. Now, 16 years later, it was announced at BlizzCon that a remake is set to arrive next year.

Dubbed Warcraft III: Reforged, it will feature content from both the base campaign - Reign of Chaos - and its The Frozen Throne expansion. The UI has been updated, the gameplay rebalanced, and players will be able to take advantage of updated Battle.net features and improved multiplayer matchmaking.

On the subject of the remake, J. Allen Brack, President of Blizzard Entertainment, stated:

“Warcraft III is monumentally important to us here at Blizzard, and its influence is evident in everything we’ve done since,”

“A project like Warcraft III: Reforged isn’t something we undertake lightly, partly because of this legacy, but more importantly, because we know what it means to our players.”

As well as the above gameplay trailer, Blizzard has also released two other ones, a cinematic and a Culling of Stratholme trailer:

The Standard Edition of the game is available for pre-order now for $29.99. Beyond that, there"s also a Spoils of War Edition - coming in at $39.99 - which gives you the Meat Wagon Mount in World of Warcraft, the Third War Card Back in Hearthstone, as well as four heroes in Heroes of the Storm - Jaina, Thrall, Anub’arak, and Tyrande -, plus a pet in Diablo III and other as of yet not revealed goodies for Starcraft II and Starcraft: Remastered.

The Hearthstone card back will be available the week of November 5, 2018, followed by the World of Warcraft mount during the week of December 10, 2018. The Heroes of the Storm characters will arrive "on or before" March 31, 2019, and the Diablo III pet will arrive "on or before" December 31, 2019.
