If you"re someone who has a lot of photos and videos saved on your device and often find yourself lost amidst the digital clutter, this new feature getting added to Facebook will definitely make you happy.
Meta is introducing a new AI-powered feature where it first scans users" entire camera roll when given explicit permission to do so. It will then analyze the photos and videos and will suggest the best moments from users" camera roll automatically in the form of appealing edits and collages. These edits and collages would be ready to be shared on both Facebook and Messenger. The feature is similar to what Google Photos and OneDrive already offer, although Meta"s approach offers seamless sharing on its platform.
Once opted in, Meta"s AI will take care of selecting and editing the photos without any further input expected from the user. The company says that all the suggestions made by AI are private, and it gives users full control over what to share, when to share, and with which friends or family members. It also added that Meta will not use media in the camera roll to train its AI unless the user explicitly chooses to edit or share content using the AI tools.
It is worth noting that Meta"s updated privacy policies state publicly shared posts, photos, and videos across Facebook and Instagram can be used to improve Meta"s AI, including generative AI services.
The feature requires opt-in and is currently rolling out to Facebook users in the United States and Canada. It will be integrated in different places on Facebook, such as Stories, Feed, and the Memories sections. Users who want to disable the feature can do so by heading over to Facebook"s camera roll settings.
Meta said that it also plans to test the feature in additional countries in the coming months.
