Far Cry TV show in development at FX, will feature standalone stories just like the games

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that it is partnering with FX to debut a TV show based on its hit action game franchise Far Cry. Surprisingly, the show has been revealed to be an anthology series, with each season refreshing entirely to tell a new story, much like the games that spawned it.

It"s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator Rob Mac, as well as Alien: Earth and Fargo creator Noah Hawley, are involved in the project. Mac is also set to star in the series in some form.

"Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized," said Mac regarding his involvement in the project. "Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant belief and support."

While no exact plot details have been announced yet, the companies involved have confirmed that the show is planning to tell a different story with each season. This involves changing up both the setting and cast as well. The Ubisoft games have previously used actors such as Giancarlo Esposito and Michael Mando as the villains. However, it"s unclear if any of the Far Cry games" settings will be brought back or if this FX series will be an independent project with original storylines.

"What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is it"s an anthology. Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a variation on a theme," adds Noah Hawley. "To create a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens is a dream come true. I"m excited to partner with Rob and bring our shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the screen."

The Far Cry series from FX will be streaming on Hulu in the US. Internationally, Disney+ will be taking care of the streaming duties. No release windows have been announced just yet.
