Google announces new Google Home Speaker, bringing back the old name

It seems like Google wants to bring back the "Google Home" branding for its smart speakers, which it once abandoned in favor of Nest. The search giant has launched the new Google Home Speaker that it says is specifically designed to work with the "Gemini For Home" AI assistant.

Google"s new smart speaker features an oval design, delivering 360-degree audio to cover all directions. It supports existing features, such as grouping with other Nest and Home speakers for multi-room music.

However, Google has added a much-requested feature: pairing two Google Home Speakers with a Google TV Streamer to enjoy a "cinematic experience with spatial surround-sound audio."

The smart speaker comes fitted with a new yarn, available in Porcelain, Hazel, Jade, and Berry, and uses a 3D knitting process that significantly reduces fabric waste. Google has taken care of the privacy part by including a physical mute switch for the microphone.

There is a light ring at the bottom of the speaker to express visual feedback when the device is busy thinking, reasoning, responding, or in Gemini Live mode. You can use the speaker to brainstorm ideas, memorize things, set calendar invites, or control playback while having back-and-forth conversations in natural language.

Google Home Speaker has arrived alongside the company"s new set of Nest-branded smart home devices. Google said that the new smart speaker will launch in Spring 2026 with a price tag of $99.99. It will be available in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Gemini For Home"s advanced features, like Gemini Live, require you to purchase the new Google Home Premium subscription. The company will offer a six-month free trial of the Standard plan to new users who buy a Google Home Speaker.

However, Google"s new AI assistant for smart home devices won"t be limited to its own products. It has teamed up with Walmart as a partner to fit the Gemini for Home with the new onn Indoor Camera Wired and onn Video Doorbell Wired.
