Google announced that it"s expanding YouTube"s beta software program to its native app for Android TVs. Those who watch videos in the YouTube app on their big screen can now get their hands on the "latest and greatest features" the company has to offer.
People can sign up for the beta version of the YouTube app on Android TV if they live in one of the supported regions. The app is currently available in more than 100 countries worldwide.
"Google LLC has invited you to a testing program for an unreleased version of the YouTube for Android TV app. As a tester, you"ll receive an update that includes a testing version of the YouTube for Android TV app, which may also include unreleased versions of its instant app," the company says on the invite page.
While beta versions of an app open doors to new or unreleased features, they are prone to unexpected errors and crashes. However, Google didn"t spill any beans on what new features (if any) made their way to the beta version.
The company is requesting users to submit their feedback, adding that it"s "specifically interested in anything around usability and performance." It"s worth noting that the YouTube app for Android TV should not be confused with YouTube TV, which is a live TV streaming service operated by Google.
YouTube has been around for two decades, and the video-sharing platform has offered beta versions of its apps for years. If you"re a Premium subscriber, you can get access to unreleased and experimental features without becoming a beta tester.
The Google-owned video-sharing platform has previously tested several experimental features that have been incorporated into the stable version, including long-press to speed up videos, jumping ahead to the best point, channel QR codes, and generative AI features like Dream Screen and Dream Track.
