Google has announced that the Search Live feature in AI Mode is now available in the US, with no opt-in required anymore. The interactive AI feature is the Google Search counterpart of Gemini Live, which can be found in the Gemini app.
You can find a new "Live" icon below the search bar on the Google app for Android and iOS. Alternatively, you can trigger the feature in Google Lens by tapping on the Live option at the bottom of the screen.
You can talk back and forth with Search Live in natural language and share your phone"s camera feed. It can analyze your camera feed to respond to your questions in real-time and provide web links for further exploration.
For the uninitiated, Google introduced Search Live earlier this year, stating that it"s built on the capabilities of Project Astra, such as multimodality, natural interaction, and context-aware dialogue. The search giant said that there are several ways you can use Search Live.
For instance, you can use Search Live to have conversations about new neighborhoods during vacation, asking about the things visible in your camera feed. It can advise on the ingredients of a new food item you saw at a cafe or help find dairy-free or sugar-free alternatives.
Search Live can also help during game nights, where you can ask it about different games without having to read the instructions. It can assist during troubleshooting sessions, where you can ask which cable goes where without manually typing the make and model of your TV or looking up different kinds of wires.
According to Google, the AI feature is capable of understanding visual context and providing the information you"re looking for. You can ask follow-up questions and check out relevant web pages.
That said, AI is still prone to making mistakes, and such features should be dealt with caution. Google hasn"t revealed when it will roll out Search Live to other countries. It will most likely happen in the future, as it has with AI Mode, which recently expanded to non-English users living in over 180 countries worldwide.
