Google is a big tech company, and it happens quite often that new products are launched with all the pomp and show, while some others are put to rest forever. The latest one being sent to Google"s graveyard is called Tables.
Google Tables is a project management or work tracking tool launched back in 2020 by the in-house incubator Area 120, designed to rival products like Atlassian JIRA, Microsoft Project, and AirTable. It is another Area 120 offering that is coming to an end. Last year, Google shut down ten different products and services, including Stacks and Keen, which also came out from Area 120.
People can use Tables to track projects and tasks without needing to manually document them in separate places. It offers a set of pre-built templates, form integration, and the ability to assign tasks to individuals, change owners, and automate workflows.
TechCrunch reported that Google has been sending emails to users this week that Tables will no longer be supported from December 16, 2025, echoing the words of an announcement made earlier this month.
Google wrote on a support page that all the workspaces are currently read-only, and it has stopped accepting new users for the beta version. "The beta version of Tables will remain free to new and existing users no matter what plan they choose or are on today," it added.
The search giant recommends that users transfer their data to other apps, such as Google Sheets or AppSheet, according to their preference. Google considers the Tables experiment a success and mentioned that its beta program has come to an end.
Some of its core features were baked into Google"s no-code platform AppSheet. Google said that the team behind Tables has built new features to support automated apps and workflows directly inside AppSheet.
These new features were released in 2023 under the name AppSheet databases, offering users a way to build data models for custom apps and workflows inside AppSheet.
Users can still view and export their Tables data until Google pulls the plug later this year. They can"t edit or add new data to their workspaces. Google said that users can export their Tables data using the "Export to Sheets" feature or the new migration tool.
