Google NotebookLM, a popular AI research assistant tool, went viral with its innovative Audio Overview feature. This feature allowed users to convert their source materials into engaging audio discussions.
Today, Google is expanding the capabilities of NotebookLM to the next level by launching Video Overviews, which were first revealed during the Google I/O event earlier this year. Currently, NotebookLM"s Video Overview can generate narrated slides, but Google plans to support more formats in the future. When a user generates a Video Overview, an AI host pulls in images, diagrams, quotes, and numbers from the source content and explains them with background audio.
Google is also allowing users to customize Video Overviews based on their needs. Users can specify topics to focus on, define the target audience, and more. This new Video Overviews feature in NotebookLM is now rolling out to all users in English. Google will be adding support for more languages in the near future.
In addition to Video Overviews, NotebookLM is also getting a redesigned Studio experience. Previously, NotebookLM allowed users to transform their source material into different formats like Audio Overviews, Mind Maps, and Study Guides, but they could only create one of each per notebook.
With today"s update, users can create and store multiple Studio outputs of the same type in a single notebook. This allows users to create different versions of the same content format based on their needs. As can be seen in the video below, users will have four different tiles at the top of the Studio panel for creating Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Mind Maps, and Reports.
Finally, users can now listen to an Audio Overview while simultaneously exploring a generated Mind Map or Study Guide. This redesigned Studio experience will be rolling out to all users over the next few weeks.
