Inked notes can now be viewed in PDF books in the Edge beta for Android and iOS

The last update Microsoft released for its Edge browser on mobile devices - which started rolling out to all Android users earlier this week - introduced the ability to view inked notes inside e-books. The feature was, however, omitted from PDF files.

Today, a new build of Edge is rolling out to beta testers on Android and iOS and, among other improvements, it fills that feature gap. It also enables word searching inside e-books. Here"s the list of changes offered by Microsoft:

  • Sign in with a work or school account to get to protected organizational websites
  • PDF Books: See inked notes (from PC) on your phone
  • Books: Search for words in your e-book
  • Improved performance

As noted in the changelog, you still won"t be able to actually add ink using your phone, but you can now see the notes added using a PC. Though not mentioned in the list, some minor design changes seem to have taken place as well, with the tab bar at the bottom of the screen now showing a counter for the number of open tabs. Keep in mind that the update might be rolling out slowly, and it might not be available for everyone right away.

Microsoft has been focused on improving its apps and services across platforms, and while updates such as these are relatively minor, they"re still welcome. If you"d like to try out Edge for Android, you can get it from the Play Store, where you should be able to sign up for the beta as well. If you"re on iOS, you can try the browser here.
