iPhone 4 drops fewer calls on Verizon than AT&T

Okay, so maybe not too many people showed up to Verizon"s iPhone 4 launch in February. After all, it"s the same iPhone from AT&T but on a different network, and an ever so slightly newer version iOS. But those who have made the switch might be cheering over the results of a recent survey (or may have been expecting the results already). The survey concluded that users of iPhone 4s on Verizon"s network report fewer dropped calls than those on AT&T - a difference of 3% of users on either networks.

The survey, released today by ChangeWave Research, surveyed 4,068 consumers. Some of the other interesting statistics they report include:

  • Customer satisfaction rates of the iPhone 4 are equal on both networks, with 82% of customers being "very satisfied" and 16% being "somewhat satisfied" on Verizon, compared to 80% and 18% respectively on AT&T.
  • Amongst the 4 major networks in the United States - Verizon, T-Mobile (before being acquired by AT&T), Sprint/Nextel, and AT&T - Verizon leads the pack with fewer dropped calls across all cellphone devices than the other three networks. Not surprisingly, AT&T was the worst.
  • In a nearly three-year historical trend comparing AT&T and Verizon, the percentage of dropped calls on Verizon have decreased, while AT&T has increased.
