Google"s AI-powered note-taking and research app, NotebookLM, has baked some new updates for its Audio Overviews feature. You can now customize your Audio Overviews even more and choose from different audio formats when generating an overview.
The search giant detailed its latest updates in a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) and said that the following audio formats are now rolling out in NotebookLM:
- Deep Dive (Default): Generates conversational dialogues where two AI hosts explore your topics in depth.
- Brief: This format generates audio clips that are one to two minutes long. It offers a bite-sized overview to help you grasp the core ideas from your sources quickly.
- Critique: It"s meant to provide an expert review of your sources, offering constructive feedback to help you improve your material.
- Debate: It can generate a thoughtful debate between two hosts, illuminating different perspectives on your sources.
Launched in 2024, the Audio Overviews feature is known for its conversational style summaries generated using AI. It features two AI hosts talking to each other and narrating summaries in a natural-sounding voice, but things might go south sometimes.
NotebookLM can fetch pull images, diagrams, quotes, and numbers from your documents, analyze YouTube videos, and search for information on the web as part of its job.
You"ll be able to access these audio formats by clicking on the pencil button on the Audio Overview card. These options build on the changes Google introduced in previous months, including duration control options that allow you to select different audio lengths for your overview.
Google recently made some under-the-hood changes in NotebookLM to generate more comprehensive and in-depth audio overviews in over 80 languages supported by the tool. The search giant also launched NotebookLM apps for Android and iOS, along with a new collection of featured notebooks covering various topics.
