MasterCard is giving free London travel to its customers with Apple Pay

It"s been just over a year since Apple launched its mobile payment platform, and since then, it"s grown considerably with widespread support from banks and retailers alike. Apple Pay launched in the UK a few months ago, and one rather convenient feature for Londoners is the ability to use an Apple device to pay for travel across the city"s public transport network.

And that feature just became even more appealing - for the next few weeks, anyway - thanks to MasterCard"s new "Fare Free Mondays" promotion.

If you"re a MasterCard UK cardholder with a device that supports Apple Pay - including the 6- and 6s-generation iPhones, or Apple Watch - you"ll be able to enjoy free travel across the Transport for London (TfL) network every Monday, from today up to and including December 14.

Under the terms and conditions of the offer, you"ll have to actually pay for your travel up front, using a MasterCard registered on the device, and those payments - up to a maximum value of £27.90 each Monday - will then be refunded within 28 days.

The offer extends to TfL services within the London travel zones, including:

  • London Buses
  • London Underground
  • London Overground
  • London Trams
  • Docklands Light Railway
  • Emirates Air Line
  • TfL Rail
  • and most National Rail services in London

...but not Thames Clipper River Bus services.
