Microsoft Edge Dev 75.0.139.4 is out with fixes

Today, Microsoft released version 75.0.139.4 of its Chromium-powered Edge browser to the Dev channel. There"s not a lot that"s new, as it mainly includes improvements from Chromium 75. There are a couple of fixes included though:

  • Fixed a crash when viewing a security certificate in F12 developer tools

  • Fixed a crash which prevented the browser from shutting down cleanly after the first time it is run

Edge Dev is meant to be updated weekly, while the Canary branch gets daily updates. Obviously, if you want the bleeding edge (pun intended) of new features, you"ll want to go for the latter. Of course, that also means that things may break from time to time.

Ever since the Chromium-powered browser was launched in preview last month, the team has been adding features regularly. Translation is now available, and PWAs installed from Edge now show up in the top level of the Start Menu instead of in a folder. There"s a lot more that"s on the way though, such as ARM64 support, support for other operating systems like Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and macOS, and dark mode.

The next step will be to start releasing builds to the Beta branch, and then the browser should be generally available later on this year.
