Microsoft today announced a range of new features for its Xbox consoles that are entering the public testing phase. One of these is enabling a long-requested function too, finally letting players choose what games can use the Quick Resume feature on the Xbox Series X|S consoles.
For those in the dark, Quick Resume is an exclusive feature on the latest Xbox consoles that lets players jump back into multiple games exactly where they left off, almost instantly, when reopening the game. It works by saving the game’s state in memory when closing and restoring it when it"s played again.
However, some games, especially ones with online components, can mess up when Quick Resume attempts to load the game. Now, over five years after its launch, Microsoft is going to make the feature an optional setting.
As Microsoft explained today, Xbox Insiders chosen for the latest tests will start seeing that opening the "More Options" menu on a game tile shows a new "Manage Quick Resume" option. Here, a new check box will be present to disable the feature for the specific game. Microsoft only recommends doing this if a game is behaving weird with Quick Resume.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is also testing more ways to customize the Home tab. The number of groups users can add is being bumped up from 2 to 10, while the UI for reordering and pinning them has also been made easier. System colors will also be customized too, letting users select their own hues and shades using sliders.
Lastly, Insiders will see that opening a profile in the guide shows the five most recently unlocked badges front and center, highlighting their milestones on the platform.
Once Microsoft is happy with how the new features are working on Xbox Insiders" consoles, they should roll out to everyone with the usual Xbox monthly updates. Interested players can head here to find out how to download the Xbox Insider Hub and join the Xbox Insider Program.
