Mistborn may become a video game, author Brandon Sanderson in talks with AAA studios

Fans of the Brandon Sanderson fantasy universe, the Cosmere, can get their hopes up for an official tie-in video game again. The author revealed recently that he is exploring options in the gaming space again, this time aiming specifically to adapt his Mistborn series. However, fans may be waiting a while for a project to appear.

The surprise news arrived inside Sanderson"s 2025 recap blog, via Vice, where he revealed that he is in talks with AAA developers for this task.

"I’ve started to get some real interest on the video game front, and I feel I’m finally getting established enough that we can make a Mistborn game happen," said the author. "To that end, I’ve started talking to some AAA developers."

Sanderson says that the game development rights for Mistborn had been "**** ** with the film rights" for six or seven years. With everything now back in his hands, the author is testing the waters to see who is interested in the series. He added that this time his video game plan involves keeping control of the series rights, unlike before.

"I already have interest from some major players in the Video Game industry (who I like a lot)," says Sanderson. "So if you are a decision maker at a AAA studio, or a major independent, and you’ve always wanted to make a Mistborn or Stormlight game... well, you would want to contact my reps now."

This is not the first time that Sanderson has shown interest in entering the gaming industry with his works. Following a failed indie project from 2012, he mentioned CD Projekt RED being a good fit for a game set in the Cosmere in 2018. Then in 2022, the Stormlight Archive and Mistborn author revealed that Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco has shown interest in working with him for a video game partnership. It"s unclear if these are some of the "major players" that Sanderson mentions in his blog.
