Motorola announces which of its phones will get Android 8.0 Oreo

Last month during a solar eclipse, Google officially announced that Android 8.0 is called Oreo, also saying that the update will come to devices from HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and more. HTC and Sony have both confirmed which of their devices will get Oreo, and now it"s Motorola"s turn.

The Lenovo-owned company says that the following 12 phones will receive the update, beginning this fall:

  • moto z

  • moto z Droid

  • moto z Force Droid

  • moto z Play

  • moto z Play Droid

  • moto z2 Play

  • moto z2 Force Edition

  • moto x4

  • moto g5

  • moto g5 Plus

  • moto g5S

  • moto g5S Plus

The oldest phone on the list is the Moto Z, which launched in June, 2016. This means that there"s currently a 15-month support window for higher-end handsets, while newer devices like the Moto E4 and E4 Plus won"t get upgraded at all.

As of three days ago when Google published its monthly usage report, 15.8% of Google Play devices are on Nougat, and Oreo is still on less than 0.1%. This will likely change within the next few months, with new phones arriving with the OS, and updates rolling out.
