Mudrunner studio goes after truck sim crown with 'next-gen' game Road Kings

Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment have another driving sim coming out, but this one isn"t focused on maneuvering over tough terrain. Announced at Gamescom, Road Kings looks like it is targeting Euro Truck Simulator 2, which has been sitting at the top spot of the truck simulation market for many years now. Check out the cinematic reveal trailer above.

Described as a "next-gen truck simulation" experience, Road Kings will have players managing the business, selecting optimal routes, and most importantly, hauling heavy cargo across highways, cities, and rural areas in the American South.

This is a big departure for the studio that has previously made driving games like MudRunner, SnowRunner, Expeditions, and RoadCraft, but it is promising completely on-road, long-distance driving for Road Kings, all using branded trucks from the real world.

Players will begin their trucking journey as a rookie driver while meeting rivals, making allies, and slowly building up a reputation in the industry. The map will cover South Georgia and North Florida at launch, with updates planned to expand the area further post-launch. The campaign will be around 10 hours in length, but infinite driving jobs will also be available for those who want to keep on trucking.

"As a native Floridian, it is awesome to see parts of my home state recreated in Road Kings. I spent hundreds of hours on those roads as a kid, and now we are bringing them to life in a game that creates a new category in the simulation space. I am so happy to be a part of this journey and personally loved playing the game," said Matthew Karch, Saber CEO.

Not everything will be smooth sailing when making deliveries though, as Saber says it is implementing a weather system to offer tougher routes. Moreover, asynchronous multiplayer support is confirmed with cross-platform play, letting players drive around the world doing jobs alongside others.

Road Kings is coming out sometime in 2026 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Sign-ups for a closed beta are currently open over here.
