New Nintendo Switch model with longer battery life announced

Nintendo announced a new member to the Switch family last week with the Lite console, coming at a lowered price point but only offering handheld gameplay. And now, the company has gone ahead and announced a new Nintendo Switch model, one that only seems to carry an upgraded battery.

According to Nintendo, the new model HAC-001(-01) will last 4.5 to nine hours on a single charge, which is a big jump from the original HAC-001 model"s 2.5 to 6.5-hour battery life. This is also higher than the newly announced Lite model"s battery life, which is said to last between three and seven hours.

When comparing the playtime of an intensive game like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo says the original Switch would last around 3 hours while the new edition will give approximately 5.5 hours.

The new model will be rolling out in Japan starting next month, with the U.S. receiving the updated hybrid console in mid-August. Meanwhile, European customers will have to wait until September. The price of the new model will remain the same as the original Switch.
