It was a year ago that Nvidia officially announced its upgraded form of Frame Generation for RTX 50 Series graphics card owners, generating up to three frames per real frame when playing supported games with the feature. Today, at CES, the company unveiled the next-generation version of the technology. Dubbed the 6X Multi Frame Generation mode, this is able to insert up to five extra frames into gameplay that are each generated from a single "traditionally rendered frame."
Available exclusively for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, according to Nvidia, the mode is aimed at players looking to hit 240 or more frames per second in their games with almost every high-end graphics setting enabled, including path tracing.
The company is also introducing a new Dynamic Multi Frame Generation option for players, which automatically selects the number of frames it will be creating depending on what"s happening on the screen.
Both of these Multi Frame Generation upgrades will arrive to RTX 50 Series owners in spring 2026.
However, another part of DLSS 4.5 itself is available today for all GeForce RTX GPUs, and that"s the second-generation transformer model for DLSS Super Resolution.
The company is touting better lighting, finer edges, and improved motion clarity with this AI model upgrade. It says that the DLSS Performance and Ultra Performance modes are the most improved aspects of version 4.5.
"By leveraging the power of the 2nd generation transformer, Performance Mode is now comparable to, and can even beat, native image quality, while Ultra Performance has evolved into a truly viable mode for 4K gaming," says Nvidia. "Overall, DLSS 4.5 delivers a significant leap in image quality across the board, resulting in sharper anti-aliasing, reduced ghosting, and enhanced temporal stability."
Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card owners can use the new DLSS 4.5 second-generation transformer model using the Nvidia app beta update. Users will be able to find a "DLSS Override feature - Model Presets" option in the Graphics tab to try it out on over 400 games. As mentioned previously, DLSS Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation 6X Mode will be landing sometime in spring.
