OpenAI and Slack team up to bring ChatGPT into your workspace

Slack is one of the most popular communication platforms within startups and enterprises. Today, OpenAI announced ChatGPT integration with Slack in two new ways. First, there is a new ChatGPT app for Slack. Second, users can now connect their Slack data with ChatGPT for better context.

The new ChatGPT app for Slack brings the power of ChatGPT directly into Slack. Once installed and configured, users can interact with ChatGPT in a dedicated sidebar. Users can also easily continue their conversations where they left off, as their chat history will remain in the dedicated sidebar.

The ChatGPT integration with Slack will offer the following features:

  • Search Slack to find messages and files: Search across channels and messages you already have access to. The app supports both keyword and semantic search, so you can quickly find messages and files by exact term or by meaning. Semantic search is available for Slack customers with AI enabled on a Business+ or Enterprise+ plan.
  • Connect Slack in ChatGPT: You can not only use ChatGPT within Slack but also search Slack messages from within your ChatGPT account.
  • Summarize long conversations in other channels into action items: Turn lengthy discussions into clear, scannable notes with owners and next steps.

With the new ChatGPT connector for Slack, users can now bring context from their Slack channels and DMs to ChatGPT and get better responses in chat, Deep Research, and Agent Mode.

The new ChatGPT app for Slack and the Slack connector for ChatGPT are available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise/Edu customers. Also, the ChatGPT app for Slack will work only with a paid Slack account. It is important to note that the ChatGPT app for Slack won’t work for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the European Economic Area (EEA), Great Britain (GB) and Switzerland (CH) due to OpenAI"s restrictions.
