OpenAI launches its most affordable ChatGPT paid subscription in India

OpenAI today announced its most affordable ChatGPT paid subscription plan, called "Go," in India. The new ChatGPT Go plan costs just ₹399 (approximately $4.5 USD) per month and provides access to GPT-5, longer memory, and more.

Here"s what ChatGPT Go will offer:

  • Everything in Free Plan
  • Extended access to GPT-5: Enjoy more usage of our flagship model.
  • Extended access to image generation: Create more images for work or play.
  • Extended access to file uploads: Analyze and work with more documents, spreadsheets, and other files.
  • Extended access to advanced data analysis: Use tools like Python for data exploration and problem-solving more often.
  • Longer memory for more personalized responses: Keep conversations flowing with a larger context window.
  • Access to projects, tasks, and custom GPTs: Organize your work, track progress, and build personalized AI tools with more flexibility.

While ChatGPT"s official webpage did not mention any details on how much "extended access" will increase the limit, ChatGPT"s head, Nick Turley, revealed on X that ChatGPT Go will offer 10x higher message limits, 10x more image generations, 10x more file uploads, and 2x longer memory compared to the free tier. Also, access to legacy models is not included with the ChatGPT Go subscription.

Since UPI is a popular payment gateway in India, ChatGPT is now allowing users to make their subscription payments through UPI.

Making ChatGPT more affordable has been a key ask from users! We’re rolling out Go in India first and will learn from feedback before expanding to other countries.

This new affordable pricing and localized payment option reflects OpenAI"s strategic effort to increase AI adoption in a key market like India. By offering a more affordable tier with popular features, OpenAI is aiming to bridge the gap between its free and premium services, attracting a wider user base in India. If the plan succeeds in India, OpenAI may extend it to other developing nations as well.
