Opera One R3 is out with improved tab groups, split view, and reworked beta program

Opera One, the company"s main browser, is getting its first feature update of 2026 today. Opera One R3 is now available for download with a couple of feature updates, namely improvements to Tab Islands or tab groups, built-in AI, customization, and the way customers can test new features and early updates.

This update lets you get more things done than ever before: Tab Islands are Opera’s intuitive alternative to tab groups: they automatically place the tabs from one browsing context into a neat Tab Island. Tab Islands can now be color-coded and named, and the faster, re-engineered Opera AI can work in the context of each one of them or in the context of each one of your tabs.Add Google services in the sidebar and a split screen with more tabs and layout options and you’re better set up to achieve anything you want in 2026.

Starting with Tab Islands, what Opera says is one of the most beloved features in the Opera One browser, R3 adds the ability to rename groups and give each group a sprinkle of color.

Opera is also making changes to how split view works. Until now, it was only possible to place two tabs side-by-side. Now, however, you can have up to four tabs in a horizontal or grid layout.

AI updates in Opera One R3 include a new engine architecture (coming from the Opera Neon browser) with faster responses. You can ask the browser anything about your current tab or the YouTube video that is currently playing. AI will find a specific moment in the video and help you better understand its topic.

Another important change in Opera One R3 is how you get preview updates. Previously, participating in the beta program required installing a separate build. Now, you can switch a single toggle to enroll your Opera One copy in the Early Bird program.

Finally, users can now access Google services from the sidebar and apply a bunch of additional themes to the browser, including Radiance, Orbit, and Sonic.

You can download Opera One R3 from the official website.
