Plex has just announced that it is going to increase the price of its new Lifetime Plex Pass from the current $249.99 USD to $749.99 USD, effective 1 July 2026 at 12:01 AM UTC. The pass has been part of the company"s offering for those who prefer a one-time payment for long-term access to its premium features.
The media streaming platform noted that it has considered removing the lifetime option in the past; however, it has now chosen to retain it while adjusting its price to better reflect ongoing development and maintenance costs. With the latest announcement, the company is also urging users to get their pass at the current price while they still can.
It also confirmed existing Lifetime Plex Pass holders will not be affected by the change, stating that all current subscribers will continue to have access to their existing benefits, with no changes to their entitlements. Additionally, the company stated that monthly and annual Plex Pass subscription prices, as well as Remote Watch Pass pricing, will remain unchanged.
The pricing update follows broader changes to Plex’s subscription and streaming model, including new requirements for remote streaming access and the introduction of the Remote Watch Pass tier for users accessing personal media libraries over the internet or on supported TV apps.
Alongside the pricing update, Plex has outlined several planned improvements to its platform. These include enhancements to downloads such as grouping by TV show and automatic episode downloads, playlist creation and editing support in mobile applications, and the return of music and photo library support in mobile apps alongside updates to the TV experience. The roadmap also includes support for NFO metadata, expanded server and library management features across mobile and TV apps, audio improvements such as dialogue boosting and loudness normalisation, additional transcoding enhancements, and IPv6 support.
Plex mentioned that it keeps shaping its media tools around people curating and managing private media collections. At the same time, the company also emphasised that it values feedback from its community, noting that user insights is what helps them steer where things go next.
