Later this month, Microsoft will release the May 2026 non-security updates containing new features and bug fixes for supported Windows 11 versions (24H2 and 25H2). A preview of these updates was released last week, and now, Microsoft is pushing newer builds with a few additional fixes.
If your PC is enrolled in the Release Preview Channel, you can download builds 26100.8521 (24H2) and 26200.8521 (25H2). These updates contain two important fixes for bugs with muted audio on certain devices and Windows Push Notification issues, causing apps to fail to launch or send any notifications.
Here is the changelog:
Updated: 19 May 2026 - Updated build numbers, fixing a few issues impacting Insiders in Release Preview after the previous flight, including:
- Fixed an issue resulting in the audio volume being unexpectedly muted on certain devices
- Fixed a Windows Push Notification service (WPN) hang, which could lead to some apps not launching and notifications not working.
The rest of the changelog is identical to the previous two builds, with features such as shared audio support, improved magnifier, better NPU tracking in Task Manager, wallpaper reliability improvements, and more. You can find the complete changelog in our dedicated post here.
As for Windows 11 26H1 users, Microsoft also pushed a new Release Preview build (28000.2175), but there are no details on what exactly this build improves over the previously released build 28000.2173.
You can expect Microsoft to release the May 2026 non-security updates in the last week of May. These updates will be optional, as usual, and all the changes and improvements will arrive as part of the mandatory June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates on June 9, 2026.
